Quad Core I7 Laptop Still Lags

I had an old asus laptop that was an i3 laptop that lagged quite a bit when i played online poker. I play 20 a lot of tables and use some programs for it that does take memory. I was told my laptop is not fast enough because it was an i3-370m processor. I upgraded it from 4gb to 8gb but it didn't do that much. Still lagged once i hit close to 20 tables. I also had an ssd as well.


I was suggested to get a quad core laptop so i won't have any issues. I bought the sager NP2740 few months ago. When i first got it, it was very fast but i didn't play any online poker with it. I just used it for web browsing and sites etc. I then downloaded programs to play. I still have a lag when i play around that much tables. Also... my laptop lags quite a bit when i have a lot of chrome windows open. I probabably have 6 windows open but each window i have at last 8 tabs on each.


Anyways when i upload files through adrive while web browsing, i have a horrible lag. Also when i type like right now, if im uploading something or downloading stuff whether on adrive or photobucket... my typing lags a lot letter by letter. First off is this normal or not?


The other thing is my laptop is an i7-4770HQ with 8gb of ram. It has the Intel® Iris™ Pro Graphics 5200 which i was told is one of the best even though all i do is play poker online. I of course have an SSD for this as well its samsung 250gb ssd.


Does anyone know why every new computer i buy, after a while it always lags and slows down? I do currently only have 144gb free out of 232gb.

The only thing I can think of is:
If you open enough things online at the same time sooner or later your net will slow down.

I know I can't play 20 poker games at the same time. My computer could but my brain and DSL can't.

When you have your machine "fully loaded" with everything open and running as would like your "steady state" production mode, when things are really slowing down, it may be that you've largely run out of physical memory and are now starting to do "paging" (i.e. swapping virtual memory to/from the hard drive).

At this point if you Start -> Run -> resmon, this will launch Windows resource monitor. Select the MEMORY tab. At the bottom of the window you'll see memory details and numbers showing available, in use, installed, hardware reserved, etc. Please post a screenshot or just let us know what all those numbers are.

Although having an SSD should really minimize any harmful effect of this "paging", it's still possible that this is a primary part of your problem. In this case adding additional memory to the laptop would very likely help significantly. The machine has two SODIMM sockets, so you could install 2x8GB=16GB to double your current memory.

Anyway, the results of RESMON would be a way to gather diagnostic info when your machine appears to be "maxed out", as to how much of your 8GB memory is in use, and thus whether or not 8GB is adequate to meet your performance requirements and whether 16GB would really help.

If this is free space on your SSD, that value only affects how much more "data" you can store you your SSD.

This has nothing at all to do with performance of the machine trying to run 20 online games at once with 6 browser windows open simultaneously with each window having 8 or more tabs open simultaneously.


One more experiment for you to run when you are "maxed out" and slowing down... because your Intel 5200 graphics uses some (up to 1.7GB) of your 8GB of memory for itself. It only has 128MB or its own built-in memory, but can dynamically grab up to 1.7GB from your system RAM (when graphics needs demand it), further putting pressure on your initial 8GB of memory.

So, I'd like to see how much memory (both static and dynamic) your Intel graphics is using when you "max out" performance. If you download and install GPU-Z, run it then select the "SENSORS" tab. On the bottom of the display you'll see how much dedicated and dynamic memory is being used. Please post those two numbers, at a time when your machine is fully loaded and everything is open and running and you're playing 20 games at once, etc.


Need to know these memory usage numbers, both from RESMON and from GPU-Z, in order to decide what recommendation might be appropriate.
