Hi STU9000 think you may be better off using Windows own defrag

Click on your Windows 7 computer's "Start" button. Then, type "Disk Defragmenter" on the Search bar.

Or, you can go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter

The only problem with Windows defrag is that it is scheduled for the middle of the night by default. You may need to change that .

My desktop runs 24/7 so that isn't a problem with that machine. My notebooks have 500GB SSDs as their sole drive so, since SSDs don't really need defragging, again, no problem.

I'm lazy; I just hit the Windows key and type "defrag", then click on the appropriate entry.

My experience with the built in Windows Defrag scheduled task

It runs later if a scheduled task is missed so the scheduled start time isn't very important.
It does not run unless the PC is idle.
If it starts, it stops running if the PC becomes not idle.
It restarts when the PC becomes idle again.

For anyone that does not use auto sleep/hibernate, or "allow idle time", this could make a difference.
Some people I know, turn on the PC, do whatever, and turn the PC off when they are done.

I use auto sleep (hybrid), so my PCs always get that 30+ minutes of idle time.
I don't turn them off, they just sleep when they should, and run "idle only tasks" such as defrag as needed.

Is there a best answer for "one size fits all" ?

Keep in mind Windows still provides no simple API to determine disk idle time like it does for CPU idle. The disk could be trashing away and defrag could still trigger.

No. That's why I hate to get pulled into defrag wars.
But they should not really put a defrag task in active by default without telling anyone. Not until they provide an API that works well enough to prevent two defraggers running simultaneously. The built in defrag seems to have improved in W8 but I still like Auslogics for quick lightweight defrags(meaning not thorough and not running in the background.)

Hmm am wondering if why my free wallpaper has stopped working. Personally all I want is the shot of the earth in "flight" I don't need any more graphical stuff because of limited net access.

I'd say, do an image search for picture of the earth from space, then you can either right click on an image and save it or set it as wallpaper or desktop background.

One image that I did find that you may like is Australia at night: City Lights of Australia, or Not : Natural Hazards If you click on the image it opens up in the same tab without the city names, again, right click on it and save it or set it as wallpaper or desktop background.

If you have google's Earth you can set the image you want then go to >Edit >Copy Image, and paste that into your photo editor, you will see all the google credits at the bottom and you may want to crop them out of the image.

If you are using Paint, once that is done you can set the image as a desktop background from the file menu.

There is a free version of google earth that doesn't have the video taking capabilities and stuff I had it in vista I believe ?
But either way a cool offer but yes it is a resource hog but very cool to checkout all of the space goodies

I do miss all of the cool shots of space not necessarily the earth stuff.

No kidding. I've spent a very frustrating day with their support system. What a joke it has become. With them going to subscription only on many of their products already, they are probably going to lose me when Acrobat XI reaches EOL in 2017.
