Installing Win7 Pro from scratch on laptop with Win7 Pro Refurb COA

Hi,

I recently bought a laptop from an online auction site. The laptop is a Thinkpad T400, which has a Windows 7 Pro for Refurbished Computers COA.

Upon first reboot, I was able to activate Windows 7 with the number in the COA sticker.

The problem is that I want to install from scratch, in order to get rid of the Lenovo Recovery Partition on the HD, so I want to do a completely clean install.

My question is: Can I install using one of the Digitalriver ISO Windows 7 Pro images, and then activate it with the COA number I have? Or do I need a special Windows 7 Pro for Refurbished ISO?

As a bonus question, the Windows 7 I have is for UK (since I bought it from somebody in England). Would I be able to install Windows 7 Pro from a Digitalriver image in other language, like Spanish, or is the COA linked to a specific language?

Thank you in advance!

If it is helpful, here is my MGADIAG.EXE output:

If you already have the Digital River ISO. The downloads are no longer there. MS is going to verify the product key first, then let you download the ISO. If you already have the image, after the install if it won't activate over the internet I'm told you can call in to an automated server to get it activated.

If you search Softpedia.com you should find the article about the removal of the DR downloads, in the Desktop=>Windows section of the site.

Thank you for your response.

Yeah, I actually have the Windows 7 Pro Digitalriver images, which I downloaded when I setup another computer a few months ago.

So, are you saying that the Refurb COA should activate the Digitalriver images? Has anybody actually done this and had success doing it?

I´m being extra cautious since this is a computer for my sister, and I don´t want to bork it. :)

Thanks again.

What I've read from other regular posters is that if you use the same product level, Home Premium, Pro, etc. that the COA was for, you should be fine.

Edit: This tutorial has details:

That´s great news. Thank you for the link too! I will be installing using a USB key.

I´ll report when the install (hopefully) succeeds.
