Just installed 2.1.4.1018.

I like the looks of it. Too early to tell how it behaves.

What's the current consensus of whether or not it's advisable to "automatically quarantine detected items"? I see that it is the default.

I seem to recall a fiasco a couple of years ago that resulted in many unbootable systems. Mine included. I got out of it by restoring an image, but as I recall it could have been avoided if "automatic quarantine" had been disabled.

I too got bricked by that update and restored a Backup Image.
I turned off auto quarantine thinking that would be safer.
I later read turning it off really doesn't do what it sounds like.
It only delays the auto quarantine for 30 or 60 seconds, then if the user doesn't reply, it auto quarantines anyway.
If you're sitting in front of the PC when something gets detected it will help.

I don't know if they changed the way that works since then, i never heard they did.

I've been using the recent Beta's and RC's for several weeks now without issues.

The free version, on the other hand, doesn't auto-quarantine at all so far as I'm aware. Is that the case or is there in fact just a delay there as well?

I'm not absolutely sure on that as I have the paid version on all my systems.
The free version doesn't run automatic scans or updates so you would have to manually do something to detect any malware.
If you start a scan and walk away, it might auto quarantine if you're not there when items are detected ???

When i got bricked it was caused by an auto update of the virus definitions.
The PC just immediately bricked as real-time protection quarantined valid OS system files.

Maybe someone else here knows and will reply, or you could ask on the MBAM forum.

I think you are OK, it seems scans don't use the "40 second rule" that real-time protection uses.

Items detected by a manual scan will never be automatically quarantined (The 40 second rule does not apply!).

I'm trying to find out about the Premium version. I don't think it's been changed but it never hurts to confirm it.

It was my error to quote as I didn't notice that Seffrid was referencing the free version. Getting old isn't easy, at least that's what I'm going to blame it on. I apologize.

It's more scheduled scanning from what I'm getting from it :/

MBAM is specifically designed to target zero-hour and zero-day threats often missed by the AVs, some of whom update their database only once a day.
As such, the MBAM database is updated several times daily (8-15 times/24 hour) precisely for that purpose.
That is why the default settings for update checks are frequent (hourly).
There may or may not be a new database available at each and every hourly check -- in fact, it's very unlikely that there would be.

However, hourly checks (or a similar, frequent schedule) increase the chances that the user would have the most current database at all times.

Thanks I believe the crazy default I was referring to is checking for updates every 10 minutes,

But the default your referring to just increases insures the chances of getting a bad update

There never was or has been a "default" setting to check for updates every 10 minutes with any version of MBAM.

That would have been an end-user modification of the scheduler settings.
And such a modification to every-10-minute checks is neither necessary nor recommended, in the User Guide referenced in my earlier reply.
