Windows 10 worse than windows 8

Your not alone Wolfgang many others had other concerns or simply just rejected the feature of Onedrive and preferred Dropbox or what ever it's called I forget :/

Either way you slice it personal preference has to rule the day use it or not and or install it or not,
Personally I believe all of these sort of apps should be in the app store awaiting a download "if" a person wants them.

If it's truly a windows feature how about simply listing them in windows feature on or off = a wild idea indeed

Yesterday I was with friends who bought a new 8.1 PC. I installed the system for them with a local account. Then they wanted to use the calendar app - but that does not work without a MS account. Why?

Those people have that one and only computer and all they want is a calendar on that computer. They have no other MS gear. Why would MS force them to have an account for such a small application.

Calendars as far as I'm aware of have always been associated with either an email program or an online email service
Apps are just another way to get to the websites service :/

You were wrong Wolfgang, I am not going to tell you about the settings because you are right; it really is so incredibly complicated to change the sync settings that most users couldn't do it. It would need a several pages long tutorial with screenshots and videos to show how to change the sync settings in Windows 10. The sync section in PC Settings really could not be more complicated. I can understand you very well, who on earth could manage this:

OneDrive has to be set up in order to sync anything. When set up, it by default syncs nothing so that's one thing Wolfgang should not be worried about: OneDrive only syncs the data you tell it to sync, only when you tell it to sync. Really, by default nothing is synced.

No reason to apologize. I simply admitted how extremely diffucult task it is and how deep in core of the Windows the sync settings are buried. Changing them is a task which could only be managed by professionals and that's why no normal user should ever try it.

Windows 10 is to a degree the same thing. At this time during the building stage we really don't know all the choices we will have or not have in Windows 10.

We are still in the wait and see stage with Windows 10. I do believe that their will many new things in Windows 10 that many will like.
When Windows 10 is done I will decide whether I like it or not.
If I don't like it I just won't use it.
If i like it I will be Windows 10 fan boy just like I am with Windows 7.
I'm in no hurry; I can wait.

I have lived all my life without Windows 10, I can wait a few months more until it's finished and ready for prime time.

I use Windows 7 at work and support a 400 pc fleet with 7 machines and XP machines. Currently fazing out the XP machine's and only have 40 to go. I have Windows 8 on my personal machine and it's alright but 7 is the most powerful OS I've ever used. I look forward to seeing the final product of 10 and may upgrade when it comes out from 8.1.

Now you're talking my language! :roflmao: The main fail on the MS side then was how they were going about trying to work out a new multi-platform OS without first taking into consideration how Vista had bridged a gap where 8 didn't. Appearance! With Vista you saw Classic or Aero while 8 simply brought in Metro without Aero being an automatic negative.

Then you add in how 8 turned out to be a stripped down OS with the main beef being the lack of the all too common since 95 Start menu plus other features that have been in there since XP like WMP which had been optional but available with Vista and 7 having it included. It immediately got a bad light. 8.1 was some correction being made there but not enough.

We're still not out of the woods with 10 yet since it's still in Preview form not RTM quite yet. That will prove to be the maker or breaker in the long run while the return of the Start menu should make it quite a bit more appealing for most. For the many the questions that will remain are what it will be bringing in as well as what it could be taking away.

With 8.1 you had the option for arriving at the desktop and not the Metro start screen brought in while 10 has two types of downloads being mobile or pc in obviously in both x86, x64 flavors. Again the Start menu will be the one item of interest to stand out. Other then the renaming of things like All apps compared to All programs the bloat of tiles extending outward to the right could prove to be an annoyance while the bulk will take that over Metro only.

I'm also in the "wait and see" group ... but i'll probably update some of my OS's just to keep current and learn ...

I've been using WTP as a VM, but not spending much time with it, a VM is not the same experience as a bare metal install for me ...

I installed Classic Shell 4.2 beta in the latest WTP and i'm really liking what i see.
It lets me use WTP "like W7" so i can find things easily/quickly.
It also lets me switch to the WTP start screen in 1 click, so i can play there.

For this old bag-a-bones, i think that's cool, and can help me with the "learning curve transition"

However, as I run a lot of Hyper-V virtual machines, for example having XP, Seven, Eight and some Linux ditros only as virtual machines, all my physical machines running Win 10 Build 10041, I have to wait because of the warnings given by Microsoft:

Here are some known issues for this build

• After logging in, you may see a blue screen instead of your desktop. To work around this issue, lock your PC (with the hardware button or by pressing the Windows Key + L) and try logging in again. You can also try Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
• Indexing of new email in Outlook is not working, so search results will be limited to when the last index was built.
• If you have Virtual Machines hosted on your PC running Windows 10, you will want to move to the Slow ring and wait for the next build as this build breaks the ability to run VMs.
• There are 2 issues using Visual Studio 2015 preview on this build:
• The emulators will not boot and you won’t be able to deploy a Windows Universal app to the Mobile emulator.
• The XAML designer in VS and Blend will crash when opened.
• If you are a developer using these tools today to develop Windows Universal apps and need this functionality to work – we recommend switching to the Slow ring until we release a patch to fix these issues.

This build is pretty much all about Project Spartan, so we hope you enjoy getting your hands on it for the first time. XP is a Model T compared to modern OS's.

Windows 10 is designed to adjust to whether you want a Desktop OS - or touch, tablet, phone or other hybrid. For the billion+ customers who MS raised on the desktop, it is a logical successor to Windows 7 so far and may even turn out to be better. Time will tell.
