Change Boot Logo/Screen?

I will re-iterate what has already been posted in other threads... most of the people here volunteer their time and knowledge to assist the newcomer, however with the attitude that REB has displayed, don't expect much... We do this because we enjoy helping out, not because we have to...

I couldn't agree more.

Me too!

Dispite heavy messages posted here by some people, I also would like to know how to change the booting splash screen. (The one where 4 light balls merge to become the windows logo).

I don't actually want to change it to a whole different image, or so.
I only want to remove the 2 text lines:
"Windows Starting"
- and -
"the Copyright -line"

We all know windows is starting at that time, and we all know windows has copyrights. Who cares! It would be nicer just to see a black screen and out of nowhere 4 lights became the windows logo and open the logon screen.
It would make the splash screen a bit more 'flashy'!

Anybody any ideas if this is possible? Just to remove those 2 lines of text?

For anyone looking for a solution :

- First, Use ResHack with %windir%\system32\bootres.dll file
- Extract the RCData resource.
- So you have two files, one *.rc and another one *.bin
- Rename the file *.bin into *.wim (not win!!)
- Use 7zip to extract your *.wim file
- In the extracted files you have an xml witch describe the second file witch is the boot logon bitmap animation!!!

Now you can modify the logon animation! But be carefull, to have a correct xml description file!!!

After modifications, do the inverse procedure, with a backup of your original bootres.dll file.

I advise you to try on a virtual machine before!

PS : Microsoft do not recommend to change it!!!

Does it really work, mate????
Would it be possible then for someone to make the screen as a explained before (above) and just post the *.dll file, so I can overwrite it?
Or can't it be overwritten?
Anyone volunteers?!

O, I did all the steps and I see the animation bitmap. This I can change to whatever.
But it doesn't show the 2 lines "windows starting" / "Copyright...." So I can't remove these lines, these words.
That means these words are not in the picture. So where are they from? Where is the file and the script where it says to show these words at the boot logo/screen and how to get rid off them?

P.

It does work if you do it right. But it holds some grave security issues, as is stated by m$, and trust me, their warning is not hollow.

I too would advise against it, but everyone does with their rig as they please, so these instructions should be available for everyone to use if they please...

As for the writing, that resource is located elsewhere, be it inside bootres.dll, or in some other file. But I'd suspect it's tucked away somewhere inside bootres.dll, but don't know where yet.

And that's what I would like to know! Where the hell inside bootres.dll are the words: "windows starting" ???!?!?!
I want to get rid off it!!!
I only want the morphing windows logo, in front of a black background! No Text! :D

Anyone who can figure this out, gets an award from MS!:D:D:zip:

why is it so ******* hard to work this out we want to change the BOOT SCREEN not the logon screen

you can do it with tune up utilities but that doesnt work on on windows 7 i havnt tried bootskin by stardock tho

in the newest version of tuneup utilities no you cannot, and unless you have the latest version of tuneup utilities you will have problems using it in 7.

I think I may have found where the "Starting Windows" for your boot logo is located. Give me a day or two to test a couple things and I will post instructions on how to change it....

i have been watching this thread and i am sorry but i have to laugh at how many users do not seem to understand the difference between the bootscreen and the loginscreen. if i were reb i would be a little upset too.

microsoft has since xp been dumbing down the gui to push everyone to do things the same way. this includes making it harder and harder to tweak the os to a users liking. win 7 is great. from the first beta i ran i never looked back, however the major flaw is loosing the ability to do simple tweaks like change the bootscreen.

maybe we should have made ourselves clearer. most users do not want to have to hack the os to tweak it.

He asked, so I simply answered. Something wrong with that ?
If you wanna "tweak" your os without even rolling up your sleeves imo is lame and lazy. That way you'll never learn how to actually "tweak" your os. Besides, using restorator is virtually doing the same thing as applying a custom theme. How do you think it got customized ? Don't get me wrong but if you don't wanna do that, just don't. But don't treat hackin an os like it's something degenerate. It's partially thanx to resource hacking that you can apply custom themes in their abundancy. Not to mention it's not hard at all. I don't get the fuss about it, it's easy as can be.
So when you say "most ppl", speak for yourself, cause I have seen enough ppl who do appreciate the help they get.

And please don't treat me like I'm some kind of outcast. At least I'm trying to help.
Ppl want a solution, and I provide it if I can. I gave a solid and usefull solution to this problem. If you don't want to use the solution, then just don't, but then why ask in the first place ?
And resource hacking happens to be the only manageable solution out there to change the bootscreen, so untill some third party app provides it, it's take it or leave it.

i never implied or stated you are a degenerate for wanting to do the hacks yourself, nor did i imply that you were an outcast because you want to do the hacks yourself. all i said is that most people want a neat little app or .reg key to install to achieve the end result. most people are not comfortable playing in their register or hacking a file. i personally do not mind going in the registry and making changes to achieve the changes i want, however i am not comfortable with hacking exe's, dll's, etc. as for hackers in general i have no problems. they tend to get a bad rep because of the few bad apples. if not for hackers a lot of os customization would not be possible.

Oh and let me add that this isnt possible.

No matter how you mod the bootres.dll it will require a digital signature and that disappears as soon as you mod it.. If there is no digital signature then it will just show the old vista bootscreen.. so just give up.
