1024 what? Would that be 1024KB cluster size? The default format for large HDDs in Disk Management is 4096KB but can be changed. The only advantage to smaller cluster sizes is if one has a large number of small files. A file can occupy only one cluster or multiple clusters depending upon the size. If a file takes up 3 clusters but the third cluster is only half full the remaining space can't be used, called waste or slack space. That was very critical back in the days of 120MB HDDs [1992 for my first computer] but our large HDDs now don't have as much of that problem.

Not sure, but just use Partition Wizard to align the drive.

Then check em with Diskpart.

i just took out a hard drive from my old pc. i need more space on my new pc so i formatted it (it had an OS installed on it).

i typed list partition and it has 101mb for offset, so that means its not correctly aligned right?

btw im ususing this as a reference SSD Alignment

Did you delete the drive down to unallocated space, then create a partition and align it ?

That`s how you have to do it properly.

The offset at the kilobyte level has to be divisible by 4 for it to be correct.

I told you, use partition wizard to delete, create, format and align the drive.

Are you sure you are reading that right and that 100 MB is not a size rather than an offset?

Post a screen shot.

Do what I told you, then post a new shot of diskpart.

We do not post pictures like that, use the paperclip icon in your replies to add pictures.

That is not an offset, that is unallocated space, you did not delete the drive down all the way.

You can not show the offset with partition wizard.

Look at post #3 again.

The 1st partition has an offset of 1024 KB which is right, only the first partition offset matters.

Now you have to check Disk 0 and Disk 1 :)

Do them 1 at a time, Disk 0 looks like it has a system reserved partition, so only it`s offset matters.

Personally I don`t use Logical Partitions, only Primary.
