DVD's trays don't eject from time to time.

So just rip your discs, Iron Maiden and BLS all over this box :D

I'm sticking to my physical stuff and use it as long as i can. I'll never get rid of it unless there's no more readers on this planet for sale...

I'm gonna have to do that sooner or later? perhaps, but it's not the same experience, no booklet, lossy music is obviously inferior than lossless one and all the bonus dvd's that are not for sell unless you buy physical.

At least i'm not fancy of vinyl lol.

BTW last time i checked Windows 8.1 was still sold on DVD so...

In the meantime i need to buy a new DVD burner, that Lite on is too nosiy when reading...

Asus DRW-24F1ST (loud) or Samsung Sh-224db (slow during boot)? Man, I'm damned!

I`m all for supporting your artist, I`m just saying rip it, there`s no loss of quality, in fact it`s better. Then put that baby back in the case.

Why did you bring up Windows 8.1 ? It`s garbage

Because windows 10 is almost out, hence i bet one is gonna get the chance to clean install it using a DVD for example. All my windows, offices and utilities are stored on DVD's too.

Yes dvd/blu-rays will be around for a long while yet.

I don`t see anyone buying Windows 10 when it will be a free upgrade, but you`d have to be nuts to upgrade (downgrade) Windows 7 to 10

Wait, are you saying windows 10 will be only availabe as an upgrade via Windows update only? I don't think so. As soon as the ISO is available i'm gonna burn a DVD in order to perform a clean install.

I never said that, I said if you wanted it free, you would upgrade to it. It will be a free upgrade for 1 year after it`s release.

But then it`s bye bye Windows 7. If you like 7 you`ll hate 10.

What are you waiting for, you can try it right now.

Then i don't get you, why did you write this?:

but you`d have to be nuts to upgrade (downgrade) Windows 7 to 10

nuts to upgrade????

I know i'm not gonna like 10, i love 7 and loved XP and 98 sec edition, but you know time to move on, skipping all the 8 flavours was enough...also those windows 7 updates accumulated so far...its a pain to reinstall windows 7 right now.

Nahh i'm gonna wait for the final release.

Because you sounded like you really wanted to try Windows 10 and I thought maybe you didn`t know you could try the TP, that`s all.

I have the TP on a box, it`s no big deal.

Hence, you`d be nuts to ruin your perfectly good 7 license to upgrade to 10, hope you understand now :)

As far as reinstalling, you should always keep a disk image so you don`t have to do a time consuming reinstall.

Oh got it. ;)

Yeah i've been waiting for Windows 10 for a couple of years ago now, i totally skipped Windows 8, no start button no deal.

But now with Windows 10 almost here, being free and Windows 7 Mainstream support having ended is time to move on definitely whether i like it or not. I only hope i can find updated drivers for all my hardware.

10 looks just like 8 so.... they are more or less clones, no Aero yuk  But after all, it`s just an operating system.

As far as drivers, if a system runs 7 it`ll run 10, the Gateway GT5404 Vista box I put it on runs fine, no driver issues at all, and that is from about 2007ish.

Yes well Smiths I have got to say the Samsung gear has come a long way and is close to being top dog in my mind. My Blu ray hasn't missed a beat and is really quite.

But there again I am a CD / DVD program person for specific programs ie boot disks etc. as I don't relay like the using USB sticks unless I have to.

In my mind they are way too large and like those ridiculously large hard drives - lose it and you lose a lot of data too.

The problem with Sony was they were building in info gathering software into CD 's and heaven knows what else so I guess any firmware stuff is vulnerable to that anyway. It is just that they got caught.

In my mind they are way too large and like those ridiculously large hard drives - lose it and you lose a lot of data too.

Wouldn't you like a single USB stick with all your bootable applications/installers all in one place?

And you can use the free ImageUSB to clone/image the USB stick so if you lose it you can re-create in short time. Tools for OSForensics - ImageUSB - Write an image to multiple USB Flash Drives

For example I have a YUMI multiboot stick (16GB) with:

Yes mate I do have a few but I like to keep the really important ones separate so that I can just put them into the optical for example especially the bootable ones, and keep BIOS flash ones separate because I ma a bit wary of having anything else but that BIOS flash on it cos knowing my luck I would wreck the BIOS somehow. I am just a bit OCD when it comes to that and keep them in a folder that I just pull out and stick in the disk.

The other thing is I am a hoarder and my collection of USB sticks has to be seen to be believed and I have to admit to losing track of what is on what.

I am lucky with some of my bootable disks but I will message that to you.;)

It was quite a while ago now but they were incorporating tracking stuff into their products - notably CD's and this as you can see is well dated now but I think it went on further Sony Music CDs surreptitiously install DRM Trojan horses on PCs | ZDNet

There was this too http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-...novo-admits-putting-tracking-software-your-pc

and this Researchers can slip an undetectable trojan into Intel all very scary stuff but there was more than these companies either thinking of doing it or actually doing it - I mean how would you or I know??

Thanks for the links. Now i get it, music cd's.... bad Sony that's why you get hacked... EMI also used copy protection software between certain years in the past too, now they don't exist anymore...

Happily i only own a bunch of emi copy protected ones, not a single sony with protection.

Yep me a and a mile of others there were before they caught up with the tricks. The worrying ones though are the stuff they can build into chips at the manufacturing level and as they would be part of the architecture a) you wouldn't know and b) how the heck woud you get rid of them being a hard substrate inclusion level :zip:
