IE8 open in new tab stuck at Connecting

Ok, I have seen other posts on this in the forum, but none that have solved the problem for me, so here is another one to hopefully get the solution. I have Windows 7 RTM and until yesterday, the open in a new tab function of IE8 worked fine. Now it just hangs on a new tab with "Connecting" on the tab. I can open a URL on that tab if I select a favorite or type in a URL. I did do install/uninstalls of some Canon software for my digital camera (uninstalled because it wasn't working with Windows 7) and I also installed Google Picasa 3.5. I'm not sure if any of those were the culprit as I have found numerous complaints about this problem. I tried regsvr32 actxprxy.dll and a reboot, but that didn't work. Any help would be appreciated.

Because I stream quite a bit of video, I also found it useful to upsize my cache size.

Thanks for trying, but that's not even close to a solution for this problem. Anyone else?

We might get closer to a solution if you provide us with more information. Is it connectivity, a browser problem, or something else.

It solved it for me. Since it is not even close, it is reasonable to conclude that you did not try it. Try this then - relocate the TIF directory to another drive, forcing a rebuild of your corrupted TIF.

You're right. My appologies to AntMan for my snippy response :o. Not an excuse, but just had gotten off the phone with Microsoft support who were less than helpful (since W7 isn't publically released yet).

Here's more info: Browser works fine when opening first page. If I right click on a link to "open in a new tab" the tab opens with a blank page and "Connecting" on the tab. That's as far as it will go. Same thing happens if I left click on a link that normally opens a new tab. I've seen many references to this behavior on IE8, so I was hoping to get someone who was familiar with the problem; and hopefully the solution.

Actually, I did try it (one of the first things I did try), along with a reset. As I stated above, I appologize for my snippy response. Thanks for the other suggestion; I'll give it a try (if I can figure-out what directory you are referring to).

UPDATE: Found it; didn't fix it.

Hi Balut,
If you have "SSVHelperClass" Add-on enabled, disable it and see whether that helps.

Hi Balut,
Go to services and disable "Google Update service", let us know if it fixes the problem.

I tried running with no add-ons (via System Tools folder in Accessories) and checked the Google Update Service (it was already stopped). However, there was a Google Update in the startup service (which I disabled and did reboot). Still have the same problem. I may resort to a clean install of all to see if I can pinpoint when (or if) the problem returns. Thanks for all the help. I will update if I resolve the problem.

See whether these Updates(released yesterday) help in any way, I found them very impressive and made a lot of difference. I hope these resolve your issues.

Guys, I'm having the same exact problem, tried all the solutions recommended here and other places, nothing seems to help. Just installed Win7 a few hours ago.

I tried the updates and still had the issue. Ended-up doing a clean re-install and so far tabbed browsing is working again. Haven't re-installed Google Picasa yet. Thanks again for all the ideas.

Hi,

Has anyone found a resolution to this issue yet? I installed a clean version of Windows 7 Ultimate last weekend, and IE8 was running fine until yesterday, when suddenly it stopped opening links in new tabs/windows. I've tried the different solutions suggestions in this thread, but none work!

Only things installed on the system are Office 2007, Symantec Endpoint Protection SBS & Windows Live Mail. Office & Symantec were installed at the weekend just after installing Windows 7, and IE8 was working fine for 3 days. Windows Live Mail was installed on Tuesday, and IE8 seemed to work OK all Tuesday, although I didn't reboot after installing WLM. It was only yesterday evening that tabs stopped working.

It's a real pain the the rear end, I hadn't realised how reliant on tabs I'd become!!

Thanks

Ben

I was having a similar problem and mine seemed to be my antivirus/internet security. I was using Avira pro and switched to MS security essentials and now IE8 works like a champ. Not sure if this will help anybody but was just my experience.

After all you need to reboot your machine.

After a month of trying everything else, this finally worked for me. Not a bad idea to first create a restore point on your C:\ drive.
