No display during cold boots

bhaveshzzz mate if you run HW Info and let us know what the readouts are - see thus ditty of mine it will soon show up any problems with your PSU (a common problem often overlooked)
UsingHW Info PSU

Download HW Info and pick the right bit version -
HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download - (or copy and paste this site into the search bar) If you do not need the running information in the smaller right hand panel close it. In the left hand window click on the + for the individual device groupings and they will open out to the various components.

Go on opening out further until you get to the device itself. click on it and it will highlight. In the right hand window there will be a very detailed description of that device as in brand, speeds model number etc etc These are very detailed and are just what is needed for searching for drivers etc.

To get the PSU volts you need to select the Sensor button circled in yellow in the pic for PSU testing do the same and scroll down the readout as in my pic to where it has Nuvoton = yours might be a different section name / title. Post back apic of that please.

If you want a more definitive test see this
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/301799-psu-test-dc-output-voltage.html
but please only use a digital multimeter and not an analogue as they inject typically 9v into a circuit to test and into a 3.3v or 5v rail - not a good idea!!see the partial pic of the correct sort of meter in that tutorial. details if you scroll down that listing.

Now a good reference article is this
Voltage Rails - Power Supply 101: A Reference Of Specifications it will explain in detail what the voltages are and functions of the PSU and see pic

If you need to send a pic back see this How to Use the Snipping Tool in Vista

Well mate lets say so far so good and don't let us count out chickens yet but it is looking to be that way.

I don't know if you run any cleaners for the system or on call malware checks but these are worth keeping.

CCleaner - Download < download from piriform will keeps the temp files and rubbish at bay this is the tutorial for it http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/306648-ccleaner-delete-junk-files.html just one thing before you run the cleaner make sure to Analyse > Options > Cookies - and any that you use for sites you need passwords for save to the right and liist by highlighting them then click the arrow right. When done go back to Cleaner and run it. (See pic)

Theses are there on call malware scanners I use and a lot of the others use

http://www.superantispyware.com/

http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

ADW download frombleeping computer delete any rubbish found with the malware scans
the ADW not so much and you will need to download it each time you run it if you have to.

This is handy too http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11728-optimize-windows-7-a.html

I am continuing this old thread since replacing the PSU didn't actually solve the issue, instead it complicated the things to worse. After replacing PSU, the whole setup ran fine till March 2015 when the same symptom "no display on cold boots" started once again. The symptom became worse in May 2015 when the system is not booting at all and giving 2 beeps( According to Intel, video card error - reseat the card). This time, even swapping the PSU didn't help. However, I changed my suspicious HD 7750 to an ASUS GTX750 Ti OC 2GB GDDR5 and after that system starts perfectly fine. However, some questions regarding SAPPHIRE HD7750 makes me to investigate the issue that made me to write this thread.
1)The card has no bad capacitors, no broken compoenents
2)The card had no overheating issues and it stayed always less than 63 degree C.
3)This is perhaps the most important point - after all these issues, whenever I put it back to my PC, it won't work( no display,2 beeps). However, if I am lucky, I can get this card working!!!. To me, this is luck or random thing. Out of 10 times putting it back, 3 times it works. If it is working, it can do anything ,even Furmark(recorded max temp - 61 degree C) for couple of hours. But if I shutdown and turn it on after, say 30 minutes, the same issue of no display with2 beeps occur. Ha ha This reminds me of School math - probability:geek::D, if I am a math teacher, then I could have demonstrated this to students and ask what is the probability of this HD7750 can work in this system?!.
Besides, ASUS GTX 750 Ti works with absolutely no issues . Now my question.
=> Since ASUS GTX 750 Ti OC 2GB comes with a 6 pin PCI-E Connector and hence it draws most of the power directly from PSU rather than motherboard. If that is the case, then there is a possibility that HD 7750 which doesn't require a 6 pin connector is not getting power from the board. I am thinking like this since HD7750 is having no issue, no artifacts if it is working with this mobo. Only way to verify this is to test HD7750 in another motherboard -however, there is no such option for me here. However, my question to you is, if this is true that mobo pci-e is damaged, can this damage the new GTX 750 Ti as well?

Interesting case :) So the PC ran fine for 9-10 months after PSU change? Don't you have another PCI-e slot to test? Doesn't have to be x16.

Also did you try loading defaults in BIOS (or a CMOS reset), sometimes it helps.

Yes, that's the mysterious thing and it wasn't actually PSU issue at that time! It was either graphics card or mobo.
I don't have another PCI-e slot on this board or I don't have extra PC to test this. However, I will be testing the graphics card on another PC. The issue in that is I asked some of my friends to test this card, but they simply won't believe me and think I will destroy their PC!;).
BIOS is loaded with default settings, did a CMOS reset( by taking out the battery for a couple of minutes).
As I have mentioned, the card sometimes work perfectly but now it is purely based on my luck. I am trying to find out the factors which make this card to work on some circumstances. Assuming a capacitor issue ( I am majors in Physics), I did the following things.
1) Faulty capacitor in mobo - I kept on the mobo for couple of hours , so the capacitor is somehow fully charged. Then inserted the graphics card - no luck.
2)Faulty capacitor in graphics card - I kept the graphics card and mobo on ( in the sense PSU is on, but fans, hdd are all off, waiting for the signal to turn on everything). In that situation, current will be flowing through graphics card. However, this also fails.
3) Tried 3 PSUs - 1 350W from Corsair, 550W from Antec and another 550W from Antec.

Now I could be wrong or am reading this wrong but if the card is plugged into the board the HD onboard graphics will be cut out.
To use the Intel graphics I found to manipulate it I had to do this (for an example)

HINTS ON ADJUSTING INTEL GRAPHICS ON LAPTOPS

If you areusing or can only use the Intel graphics in your laptop machine (some laptopsnow have dual graphics chips ie Intel for general use and NVidia for heavy use– gaming etc) and want to use two monitors – for example a larger one with alaptop, and the “secondary” monitor ie the larger one the screen needs scalingthat is to get the screen within the monitor’s screen (bezel) edges – read on.

NB if you are changing the aspectfor the larger “secondary’ monitor you must first do this.

Start > Control Panel > “Display” > “MultipleDisplays” > click “Show desktop onlyon 2” (this will cut out the primary machine screen while you are adjusting thelarger monitor and not change the machine’s own screen aspect ration

IFit gives you an option for a different resolution – for example the larger monitoris 1920x1080 then change that however if the laptop for example only supports1600x900 then it might not be capable of doing that.

This worksreally well with recently manufactured Intel graphic chips and those machinesthat have the update from this link https://downloadcenter.intel.com/ this link gives one the best available graphics from Intel atthis time.

Now you haveto pick out the driver after checking this link out and for example my link formy Asus ROG gaming laptop was https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=4th+Generation+Intel%c2%ae+Core%e2%84%a2+Processors+with+Intel%c2%ae+HD+Graphics+4600

STEP 1.

On the plaindesktop right click and it will give you a window with some options.

STEP 2.

Click onGraphicsProperties” - that will open the “Intel graphics control panel”as per pic (takes few seconds).

STEP 3.

Click on “Display”– and select ‘Customise Aspect Ratio” - there will be two sliders onefor horizontal and one for vertical.

Click holdon each one and slide them in their respective directions until you see the edgeof the screen come in from the edge of the monitor bezel and them just slidethem back to where they are sitting exactly where you want them.

Then - click “Apply” and then it will askyou if you want to keep this configuration – click “OK”– it is done!!

You also get the option to save the settings in a dedicated file- I just named mine ASPECT BENQ -for this particular monitor. This so if I use another brand monitor and havechange back to the Benq for any reason I can hit that file and the settingsshould be applied – I have not needed to do this but it makes sense that iswhat will happen.

You can still use both monitors if desired by altering the Control Panel > Display (as above procedure) and setting it to use both screens –the laptop screen will not have changed from it’s default settings.

See pics.

This is just an example I used for the scaling problem I had at the time but it may help you use the Intel HD a little better.

For any faulty caps they can be located looking for bulging at the end and / or scorch marks where they are attached to the board or they can even be split and oozing the material form within. Pus I think you may know already there are more than one type of capacitor too see pics - and there some that are green in colour but are usually used in low voltage apps.

I don't see any budged caps on motherboard or graphics card. However, I found something strange with 4 capacitors of 820µF on graphics card. Using a digital multimeter, I found these capacitors are shorted. However, the same 2 capacitors are not shorted. I don't have a tool to check ESR value. But capacitor shouldn't be shorted right? If not, what is the point of placing capacitors there?:geek::confused:

That is a good read from Layback mate and if you mean shorted then no caps should show zero volts unless they have been left for a very long time. In addition to Laybacks link there is this too How to Test a Capacitor however it is very simple and the types I mentioned you can see then at the top of this article so you can see not all caps are electrolytic although they are the ones that usually cause us problems https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor

In my experience they are one of the most common causes of failure in electrical circuits and it only takes one to take down the system.

I will definitely take a look at that. However, I found another interesting case - that's the card is not fully dead. What I did was,
Removed the card-> booted the system using integrated graphics->went to the bios->Enabled Integrated graphics "Always" and set Primary graphics adapter as Integrated graphics. After that, I plugged the graphics card and connected monitor via integrated graphics. The system booted normally and the graphics card indeed was detected. So, I believe something is wrong in between the GPU and ports. If GPU/memory was the one causing the issue, then drivers were never installed properly.

UPDATE : I checked capacitors while operation. The capacitors rated at 2.5V were showing 1V and some of them were at 0V. those rated at 16V were showing 12-13 V.

Yes mate the caps are rated only for a max working voltage it doesn't mean they have to be that voltage as they build in a safety measure of voltage when they make caps . IE stick a 100v cap in a 250 v line and soon the cap will go south as that safety measure of voltage will be exceeded.

Also you will find that electrolytic caps (ones marked pos and negative) connected the wrong way round will explode and the bigger the cap the nastier the effect and can shower one with some very irritating material not to mention the mess.;) take it from one who knows.

PS Meant to mention too that reseating the cards probably did some good too and if you do it again try this

GENERAL SLOT CLEANING

Now as for anymotherboard slots to clean them use a strip of old credit card (or any cardthin enough some are better than others ) about 1/2 inch wide nip the cornersoff one end - preferably round themoffhold a piece of thinlint free cloth over the end dab on some form of alcohol - isopropyl alcohol(what we swab the skin with before an injection) is good and GENTLY swipe along the slots.

This can also be done for the GPU slot/s andalso the contacts of the sticks or other cards - not the stick but some lintfree cloth of course. See my pic for the stick but please be very gentle doingit if you are in any doubt - please ask before doing it but I use this all thetime and have yet to damage anything

Tried that. Still no luck. I think the card is a broken one:(. Like others, I am going to use it as a Sapphire HD7750 1GB GDDR5 paperweight:devil:.

hmm the cookie crumbles like that sometimes mate the one you have listed in the specs looks like it might make a good replacement.

Thanks a lot for your valuable suggestions. Yes, that's an ASUS GTX 750 Ti OC 2GB GDDR5. I upgraded to that since this HD 7750 has issue.

1. If the computer runs properly for months after installing the new power supply, the power supply did solve a problem or this wouldn't of happened. If another problem happens months later then it's exactly that; a new problem.

2. Hooking a DOVM to a powered motherboard will probable cause more problems.
Capacitors are measured with power off and the capacitors discharged.

**Please read the tutorials posted and Google for more if needed**

3. Measuring various points on a motherboard other than basic voltages and grounds at the hardware connector pins is not going to give you any useful information.

4. With a lot of special training, schematics with needed information and a oscilloscope you are going to do nothing but more damage to the motherboard poking around on it.

5. Their are reasons we don't do more tests other than visual and basic voltages and grounds.
The reason is we would need a lab with all the proper equipment and information to test motherboards.
Motherboard manufactures have such equipment, information and training. A basic oscilloscope would cost more than a motherboard many time over. Even if one had a oscilloscope and hooked it up wrong you will destroy a powered motherboard. I haven't done this type of work in about 30 years but I still remember a lot of do's and don't. It would take years of training and schooling to understand the complexity of motherboards.
