Unfortunately find Adobe frustrating. It was only last week that it was updated. I thought they were just updating slightly out of MS patch Tuesday cycle and it'd be a few weeks til next time. So to find they have unleashed another update so soon after is pretty annoying. I am very wary of all updates released by all companies, Microsoft, Apple, Adobe etc etc. I think QA testing on updates has got pretty lax given the amount of times these companies break features/functionalities with 'updates'. Due to the lack of trust it means I rigorously check and test everything after an update to see if all is ok, which is not how anyone wants to be spending their time. So for Adobe to unleash two updates in short time is annoying - I am sure there was some reason they felt the need but wish they could of spared last weeks drop and saved the fixes for today's updated edition.

So you would rather companies leave their software unpatched for a while after a security hole is found, leaving your computer vulnerable to attack instead fixing the new threat as quickly as possible? I would much rather deal with the annoyance of frequent updates than leaving my computer unprotected. Keep in mind most of these programs, which run on very complex OSes, have very complex coding and it is difficult to impossible to avoid the errors and oversights that cause the security holes.

I guess not but I am just pretty tired of the constant patching and updates. I think QA testing is not the greatest. It just seems I spend more time patching, updating the computer/mobile devices these days than actually using them. Maybe this is a little harsh on Adobe but Microsoft/Apple release plenty of updates that cause grief. I lose trust in them

Keep in mind that there are thousands, if not tens or hundreds of thousands, or more, of possible hardware configurations that programs have to be compatible with and there is no way any developer can anticipate all of them so there are bound to be problems slipping through the cracks. Still, I agree MS has been having more than usual updates that cause problems lately.

However, the deliberate ad/nagware MS has been ramming down our throats is a "whole nuther story".

Better for you, and people that likes to play HTML5 videos (like me) if flash executes at it's own, seems to take over the GPU for no reason and browsers loose hardware acceleration...

Weird I know... I've experienced that.

I have rather coincidentally started having problems since I installed this update & I have an uneasy feeling (absent hard debugging information which I don't know how to collect) that this update is causing my problems. My system started failing to resume from hibernate properly, with BSODs and all manner of weird things going on at reboot. I have abandoned hibernating my system for the time being. Almost every day now, despite the fact that I do a normal shut down/power off the night before, the first boot up of the day puts me into the "Windows needs to repair your system" process. This wastes around 20 minutes while Windows runs around trying to repair damage that it can't repair because there is no damage. The report I get at the end of this shows return codes of 0 for all the attempted repair steps it did. And then the system boots up fine with no apparent damage & it runs perfectly.

Until it spontaneously reboots. This has been going on since about last Thursday when I got this latest update. It does seem suspiciously frequent that I am using Flash at the time. Which is easy to do since nearly every page on the web seems to use the blasted thing. The latest reboot occurred while I was doing a verification that I had the latest Flash. (I was hoping there was an even newer update.) The Adobe page started to load & poof, as it was about to launch the Flash plugin to show the little animation with the bouncing boxes, the system spontaneously rebooted. After which I was able to load the page just fine and no, they have not released a new update.

So then I launched a Google search to see if I could find any reports of my problem that way. At my attempt to display the first of those search results, poof another reboot.

Fortunately, I have gotten in the habit in the past few days of saving every single file change I make in text files, spreadsheets, whatever, so I haven't been losing any work. During these multiple spontaneous reboots during a day, the system just reboots normally to the desktop & works fine for hours usually, minutes sometimes. For example, earlier this evening, I went to launch the video stream of tonight's hockey game between the Habs and the Pens in Québec City. The moment the page with the stream started to load, bang, reboot. But right after reboot, Firefox resumed on that same page & the stream worked fine. Of course, the stream ultimately redirected me to YouTube, which I believe has ditched Flash in favor of HTML5. But the entire game played fine, and it was only after that that I had my little escapade described earlier as I tried to find an explanation for my errors.

Anyway, I'm posting this here since this appears to be an appropriate place to find the folks most likely to (a) be interested, (b) have encountered this problem. I'm assuming I am not alone.

@WildWilly,
If you're interested in trying an older flash version they are available.

You just need to be sure you pick the download you want, perhaps the 18.0.0.32 version ?
Also, Shawn has a link to the Flash uninstaller in the first post of this thread.
It might be a good idea to run that and clean things up before installing a different version.

Here is a snip from the Flash Archive page with the old versions.
