So after no response on my previous thread, I went to the expense of 2 pc repair shops and a new motherboard.. and the machine still dies!! A waste of £300+

Seen as I'm having to resolve this by myself, I'm wanting to know what the cheapest LGA1155 cpu is to test? I run the Asus P8Z77-V motherboard - I used to overclock my i7 2700k @ 4.8ghz, things were smooth for the best part of 3-4 years, but the machine rarely got turned off, so it definitely had its pacing.

I really can't afford to be throwing money at new components that don't seem to be the problem in factor.. that's why I want to try a cheap cpu and see if my 2700k oc is to blame.

Thank you.

If you're referring back to my previous thread then those clock speeds were after I reset the voltage. The second it started freezing and starting to die I panicked and reset the overclock to stock.

My theory however is that the cpu is pretty much worn-out/dead. To test that theory I want to try a cheap cpu that will fit & work with my current motherboard.. if things boot ok and stay online for over 20 minutes then hey presto! it's the cpu.

Hi,
No sorry I didn't look up your prior post just this ones info,
Intel® Socket 1155 for 3rd/2nd Generation Core™ i7/Core™ i5/Core™ i3/Pentium®/Celeron® Processors
Supports Intel® 22 nm CPU
Supports Intel® 32 nm CPU
Supports Intel® Turbo Boost Technology 2.0
* The Intel® Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 support depends on the CPU types.

Being we're not in the same region it would be difficult to advise on a cpu on a budget :/

Board looks good but no telling if it's the problem or not ?
Some cheap z97's have been around but you'd still be a cpu finding boat :(

You can review our overclocking boards and some members do still use 77 boards possibly you can review which cpu's they use ?
But cost wise cpu isn't a place to skimp some where close to psu which is not listed ?
Your ram is not specific but is a good brand :)

I don't think it's the board, I just tried an Asrock Z75 Pro 3 board and it still went to bsod. Also I think we're confused, I don't want to use a cheap cpu chip I just want to see if it will work without giving me bsod.. if it works then I will be able blame my i7 chip for giving me bsod, then I will buy a new 2700k chip.. but obviously if it's not the cpu then that's more money wasted lol.

Hi,
Well I'd say if you can find one an i3 would be the least expensive test cpu ?
Demand is pretty low to nonexistent
Retailers in the uk will probably make your decision for you :)

Alright thanks.

As for that link.. I would if I could, but I only get as far as the Windows logo and then it dies instantly.. I think this error is based on the fact that one repair shop had to wipe my ssd, so they backed it up onto a spare hdd.. but when heading into Windows repair on the the backup drive it displays the HP background (the drive was taken from an old HP machine) .. so I'm now also worried a little that they may have not even backed it up properly. But the main reason for me not doing that was due to inaccessibility, hell even safe mode & Windows repair tool used to bsod.

Currently it bsod's on 0x07b. But after a few attempts it originates back to the first bsod issue which is 0x0124.

Hopefully I can get a refund on this board, the shop sold it to me for £100 which seems like a rip off after googling what they actually sold me. The first repair shop charged me £30 for inspection, the second one £80 & a £30 backup fee and then there was shipping & handling on top of all of those costs. As you can probably tell I'm pretty desperate to get it fixed aha.

Yikes then I would definitely look into a refund for the board,
Then just get a more recent z97 asus sabertooth's are good quality boards and are about the same price as you paid
Then you can concentrate on a decent cpu if that one has a stoke again

Computer issues can be expensive irritations with bad parts
I was very nervous on this assembly of mine in my system spac's but worked out so far.

Alright cool, thanks.

The main priority is to get it up and running so that I can get my data back, I have a Mac that I used to run from time to time but right now it's my main machine so really all the pc needs to be able to do is basic image processing and web browsing.

You can boot and run Ubuntu from thumb drive or DVD. It will not modify your Windows files. It is free and it will help you determine if your hardware is OK or not. If it boots and runs, then I suspect your problems are with Windows.

The leading OS for PC, tablet, phone and cloud | Ubuntu

As you know, LGA 1155 socket CPU’s have not been in production for quite some time. Computer stores will either try to clear them out at a discount price or charge a premium because they know the only other option is to purchase a newer socket CPU and motherboard. You are going to have to do some leg work to find the cheapest. But will say the Pentiums, Celerons and I3’s were the cheapest during their day.

Since you are on a limited budget, why dont you think about buying a used CPU, let's say from eBay from an experienced seller who offers money-back option ? It will save you money
