How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8

I have a bunch more hidden that I don't have on my list, such as the Russian monetary and language updates, Skype, Net Framework, driver updates (if it ain't broke, don't fix it), etc.. I check every new update now.

Run disk cleanup,
Click start and type in the search box
disk cleanup
Click on the suggestion or enter key

After check the options you want to remove and you'll also see another option to Cleanup system files
On this list you'll see Windows update cleanup

It's been a little flaky in the pest but see what the amount of updates kb/mg/gb it shows.

In the past it has removed some updates that return but then again win-10 updates are already returning so what is the difference

It does take a machine restart for the process to complete.

I was just checking that out when your post came in, wondering where my desktop disk space went
5.7 GB for Temp Windows install files (files from last install = SSD)
2.23 GB for Windows Update Clean Up.

Option Three = To Disable 'Get Windows 10' using a REG file

That is the recommended way.

Well that may get rid of the get notification deal but doesn't address all of the other updates as you showed in your other post

Ah, you are getting to know me too well TrashZone.
I am not ready for WinX on the desktop yet, prefer to wait until winter months when it's snowy & cold outside to mess with upgrading. I imagine a clean install will be in the works.

But as you are well aware I'm afraid the constant tweaking of WU & KB2952664 caused WU to be corrupted. Now fixed with Fix It Quick Fix & Fix It WU reinstall (aggressive mode).

Just getting rid of the notification might be easier.

To be more clear I've now browsed threads where the KB3035583 update has reappeared. perhaps just modifying the directory is better. WU won't try to install that one again.

OK, this weird. I checked Windows Updates again to see how many times I had had KB2953664 "offered" and it shows it was only twice. I know darned well I've hidden the blasted thing many more times than that in just the past month!

I assume that MS just "unhides" it.

I suspect that MS will "wise up" and release it under a different KB number (or roll it into a Security update) to stop people blocking it.

It wouldn't surprise me if the plan is to annoy users so much that they will disable Windows Update.
After their PCs are screwed by malware MS will just say, "you should've installed W10".

I don't think they unhide it, I think they just publish new versions of the update, so I suppose that marks it as a new update/one what wasn't hidden. Last time I checked KB2952664 was on v11. Maybe it's caused issues in the past on some PC's so they keep updating it?

I wouldn't be surprised if they did rename it. I'll definitely check every update going forward. It's a pity we have to start doing that now to stop MS pushing garbage updates to us.

Installing all these, what would be the consequences. Because there will be a large number of users who are not aware of the issue and that surely have them installed.

Your Windows Update gets enhanced to enable it to directly update Win 10, you will get the pesky Win 10 update icon, and your computer will transmit more personal data to MS than it does already, depending on which update you allow.

I wish I had a dollar for each friend of mine who asked me what that strange, new icon was. One was looking for a new computer because her old one was a POS (underpowered; it never should have had Win 7 installed on it) and the one her brother in law bought her died shortly after she got it. She was considering a Mac and liked what she saw at the Mac store and, frankly, I could not tell her in all honesty that she would be better off not getting one, not with her lack of computer chops, all the nonsense MS has been pulling, and the direction MS has been taking. She got the Mac with my blessings.

I have all those and more hidden. I didn't count them. A couple would definitely brick this system. Like the Video driver MS listed as optional, something to do with my card reader, another for my network card. This is an HP machine with specific manufacturer drivers and while I thought the Intel Processor update was appropriate it wasn't. I had to restore form a previous image. So now I'm very picky when it comes MS updates. They burned me once and I don't intend to have it happen again.

Reading about them isn't always enough and this forum fills in a lot of the blanks. It is unfortunate that I have to rely on others misfortune to avoid the same fate.

It seems to me that MS offered this free upgrade to advance their income with advertising dollars. If not that there has to be another reason as nothing is ever free.

That explains it. I am not a sheeple and I don't roll that way.

As you stated in a previous post about giving your blessing to a friend regarding a Mac. I did the same with my daughter and son in law. While my computer experience is not on the level of yours, and most of the contributors here, I have still managed to stay safe on the Internet. The importance of security measures was something I just couldn't seem to convey to them. As a benefit I know absolutly nothing about the operations of a Mac so they don't call me everyday now telling me what's wrong.

They more or less thought of their computer like they do their TV. Turn it on and works, no muss no fuss. I have a lot of sympathy for those average users that are suffering with expensive computers and are getting poor service because of their lack of knowledge or initiative to learn.

I'll say it's 50/50 for users Upgrading/Downgrading statistics. I'm pretty sure those that have downgrading that quick were having issues and it will be just a matter of time for them to have it installed. Sure MS count on that to launch their adverts around this New OS, it does fools no one. That's the way is the consumerism world.

MS didn't hide much aswell the Windows Phone Market dropping and devaluing this section could serve his own interrests.

I'm more worried for the people that will have to upgrade their hardwares because they can't run this OS on their proper machines. It's an organized waste and garbages collectors are in the right place to recycle! I can play the sheeple as long as i can find that the flipped coin doesn't turn as a hungry Wolf.

I said it once the really weird errors upgrading to 10 are not compatible errors when the user might of been using 10tp for months or the entire testing time

But yes hardware is a big one
It's not like everyone can go out and buy a new machine or upgrade hardware especially with all of the low powered machines that have been sold in the past 5 years to keep costs low and sells going.

All of this live title stuff is very internet streaming hungry
It's like having as many browser windows open as there are apps :/
