Windows 7 activation key blocked after downgrading from 10

Upgraded to Windows 10 with no issues. Couldn't get my audio interface to work because of the driver, no update coming because of the age of the unit. I attempted to roll back to 7 but it said needed files had been deleted. I didn't delete anything and didn't run any cleanup software or any thing like that. The windows.old folder was still there but lots of files missing. I had several folders on the desktop in 7 but when I checked it in windows.old the Desktop folder was completely empty. So I guess it deleted some system files too. So did a clean reinstall of 7 with no problems but then today, 5 or 6 days later, it asked me to activate even though I had done that when I initially installed 7. When I reentered the key it said it was blocked. Here is the diagnostic report. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

That's expected behavior upgrading to Windows 10 changes your Win 7 key and blocks it unless someone else has an answer you might be able to phone Windows support and get them to unblock it. You could try to install Windows 10 again with a clean install and see if that fixes your driver problem, If you do install win 10 again if it asks you for a key press skip and it should activate itself

Where and how did you get your copy of Windows 7 and the COA key??

Nothing is making any sense for me.

Do you have one of these on your computer?

Wrong - the upgrade does NOTHING to your Windows 7 Key, and does NOT block it.
MS will NEVER unblock a blocked Key - the closest they come is to issue a new Key.

I got the computer used and it came with Windows 7 already loaded. I called Microsoft and apparently this is a multi-user key that has indeed been blocked and won't be unblocked. The COA on the computer is Vista Business x32 so I'm now trying to figure out the least expensive upgrade path from it to Windows 7 Pro x64. I don't know if there is one but I confirmed that the activation key on the computer does work.

The only current way to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro would be to purchase an OEM System Builder package, and use that to make your current install genuine (by swapping in the Key), or do a clean install with it. Be careful about where you buy your package from - there are a LOT of fakes out there! Note that if you do this, the new license CANNOT be moved to another machine, and will die with this one.

MS no longer sells Upgrade licenses to any OS except Windows 10.

I note that Dell doesn't actually support Windows 7 on this hardware - so make sure that before attempting a clean install that you note all installed drivers and have the proper installers for them!

Thanks for all the input guys, I really appreciate it. Noel, yes I was aware that Dell didn't support 7 on this machine but I've been running it for about 2 years with no problems. Is there a reputable site or ebay seller you would recommend for trying to get a system builders package?

ONLY use the major retail sellers for purchase of Windows - I reckon 90%+ of eBay and similar vendors are fakes!

Thanks Noel, I think I will just get a retail copy. I've read that even with builder package there could be issues. Something about how Microsoft did the licensing with Windows 7 specifically.

I have no idea what you have read but your chances of finding a Retail copy of Windows 7 is slim to none. You could check a in town reliable retail store and see if they have one hiding on a back shelf.
If you find a Retail copy on line it probable is not a legal copy with a legal COA key.

You can still buy OEM Builders of Windows 7.
