Okay well ram usually will help a little I don't know squat about the program you're referring to ?

Just add the ram in 7 home premium if you haven't already,
Hopefully you got matching ram ?
It's usually better to buy 8gb packs not separately

Could also be a AMD processor issue your looks like it uses a high Ghz

Agreed yes even though my first 2 sticks are 8 years old my new (used) sticks are the exact same sticks my processor is an AMD 3.01 x4 and works for everything else. I think I'm going to get the 8.1  Either way I would have to buy a new copy of W7 so I'll just going to roll the dice and cry later.

Why would you need another copy of win-7 ?
Put 8 or 8.1 on it's own sdd or hdd and have both ;)
Just remove 7's hdd and install 8 on a new.

Yes you can set a dual boot, but you will need 2 partitions. Best is to just add a new harddisk to the PC. Then boot with the installation media and chose the new HDD as the location to install.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/5166-dual-boot-installation-windows-7-vista.html - This one is for Win7 but Win8 should be similar.

Maybe a little late but, for trying out Win7 first, actually this is possible. You can use a Win7 install - fully functional - for 30 days without activating, and later extend this by another 30 days for a total of 3 times by running a simple command. So that makes 120 days. There is even a tutorial for this in the links. But it has been removed perhaps for some reason unknown to me. So I will leave this at that and let you figure out how if you are interested. Google is your friend.

Thanks all good ideas. I'm loading my old version of windows and cleaning up a 153g partition for the new OS. If it works like it did years ago I will need to have the vista OS on the computer prior to W7 or 8 install. Something about there being a newer OS already installed.

I may do a W7 install to test it out but a W8 install will give time to learn the new OS and in a pinch go back to Vista if I can't handle it for a time and W8.1 was cheaper than W7.

Thanks the link is perfect and I see no limit to the newer copy like I thought I had years ago.

Ok last post for now Changed my mind on W8 and I don't need the full version because no way to upgrade from a 32bit system. I'm returning W8 and getting W7 HP 64 and will ungrade in time to W10 and not have to take the W8 learning curve. I may even get it from Newegg. I can do the instal now and buy the OS later.

Anyone care to chime in on this observation. I am at 130 of 203 windows updates and I never have before but this time I opened up Task Manager and have been watch my progress. My CPU during installation of updates has been right around 25% but the physical memory has been climbing the whole time. I’m at 5.83 g(+/-) and 75%. It would look like by the time I get to 203 I will be out of ram.

Does this seem normal for a healthy PC?

Hi,
I would say don't use the machine during the download and install would be the best thing
I doubt ram means much unless you're doing other things on the machine.

My rule of the thumb.

When doing Windows 7 Update do nothing else on the computer.
Windows 7 Updates when messed up can cause problems for days trying to fix the problem is nothing but hell.

I was not doing anything. Just watching the CPU. I'm thinking the CPU is slowing down. It took hours to download and install them. I had it to start scanning for more updates and it just kept scanning for more than a half hour.

Before rechecking for updates again you might shut down and start back up after a few minutes.
I imagine with win-10 traffic M$ servers are getting more than the normal workout.
