How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8

For August these two would enter the list : KB3080149, KB3075249. No more ?

I'm not asking to be much more just to be sure .P

This is my Win 10 junk update list so far with those two now added at the bottom:

Something borked a laptop 2 days ago I reinstalled for a guy, wondering if it was anything to do with the last two... I am considering leaving WU disabled on the next system/s to save me the headaches, it's twice the work when they bring it back after a couple of days all messed again.

Looks fine to me. Just looks like it's an update for fixing some app crashes.
Can't see any telemetry files in the update.

Seems like it's more geared towards Symantec/IBM products. Although there is mention of MS own software crashing from a previous update too!

KB2990214 - Update that enables you to upgrade from Win7 to Win10
KB3050265 - Windows Update Client for Windows 7: June 2015
KB3065987 - Windows Update Client for Windows 7: July 2015
KB3075851 - Windows Update Client for Windows 7: August 2015
KB3083324 - Windows Update Client for Windows 7: September 2015

Have to say, I've noticed a huge improvement on my system when scanning for Windows updates. Big reduction on both CPU and RAM usage when scanning.
These don't seem to cause any ill effects or push any telemetry garbage to your system
The only downside is you have to set Group Policy to disable the 10 update through Windows update.



If you don't have Group Policy editor then use Registry Editor:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
DWORD: DisableOSUpgrade = 1

I would say these updates have been more beneficial to my system though. And it certainly cuts down on the growing list of updates to skip.

The telemetry updates are essentially MSpyware; it would be bad to install them.

Probably until Win 7's EOL, maybe even beyond.

I just noticed that *&^%$#@! MSpy downloaded and installed the recent Windows Defender update without my permission. I know it's harmless but the point is they invaded my computer without my permission to do so. So, I guess I'm going to have to start also frequently checking to see if the donkey excavations have been sneaking anything else by me.

True Lady F, but looking through the files of the updates I installed, I can't see any signs of any Telemetry nonsense in those updates. I definitely wouldn't have installed these if that were the case.

I'd say those I listed are safe to install and have been beneficial to my system at least. The rest of the garbage ones like KB2952664 I wouldn't touch with a barge pole

My list does look a little more manageable now:



Haven't noticed any unusual activity or disk thrashing. I'll report back if anything changes though.

For all we know, MS could simply stop providing any significant details about each KB and just say something very generic, not indicating anything about telemetry or Win 10---"Improves the user experience when yada yada".

They could do that with any update though. I'm not ignoring every update just on that basis.
They could slip them into a security update and most people wouldn't even realise.
If they've slipped some into the windows update client updates then I'll uninstall them. I haven't noticed anything unusual yet though.
When I had KB2952664 I did notice that it was collecting data. Hard Disk activity and frequent popups from Comodo alerted me to the fact. Haven't noticed that with these so far though. As I say, first sign of anything and I'm removing them.

100% agree! I have no idea why they're trying to push for people to update through windows update when they have the MCT, which seems to have had a better success rate than the update being pushed through WU.

Although I have some hidden updates I'm not really hiding anymore it does little good for some so I just leave them sitting
They do come with a date of release and all you need to do is click on the update and it shows

Eventually I probably will uncheck search for optional software that alone will stop most of them from being offered,
If it weren't for office 2007 I would of done it years ago
