How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8

I disagree and feel the tilting at windmills analogy is invalid. Most of the spyware and nagware updates, once blocked, stay blocked. It's only a few of the ones I've put on my Specialized High Intensity Training list that have been repeated and most of them were repeated only a few times so blocking them was not futile. And, even I have to keep rejecting the blasted things, I will continue to do so. It's sheeple who roll over and take MSpy's abuse of power that gives them the justification to keep doing so.

In the case of "Most of the spyware and nagware updates", yes, the analogy is invalid, while in other cases it is still relevant. We also don't know how Microsoft will combine the security updates with MS "spyware and nagware" (gotto love your definition ) in the near future. It isn't that hard for MS to require optional updates for security updates.

Please keep in mind that I am not arguing against keeping a tab on updates, quite the opposite. Despite knowing that keeping the "spyware and nagware" off my systems is an uphill battle, I am still doing it, even if it is a lost cause. Over my dead keyboard Microsoft can install their junk updates...

Why KB3077715 is bad?

I've taken the liberty of putting the above listed updates to avoid in numerical order and combined the reasons for KB3022345.

I have no doubt that I will be doing a clean install of Windows 7 on my two machines in the future. Looking through the list of over 200 updates in non numerical order and comparing them to a list of updates to avoid in non numerical order will make my head hurt.

I thought it maybe useful to others contemplating a clean install. I have more on my personal list but they are specifically related to my systems.

Edit: I got another KB confused with KB3083324. All these KBs are getting difficult to keep up with.

I also disabled checking for updates again and unchecked everything. I'm in manual mode now and I feel fine.

I've hidden the first two but installed the last one.

The windows update client updates don't concern me that much. But others have skipped those too so it's really up to you.

Well the windows update client updates are the ones that are responsible for auto-downloading the 10 update in the background (yes, very naughty Microsoft!). So if you want to install those updates you'll definitely want to disable that. I posted the workaround a few pages back.

I haven't noticed any unusual activity from those updates yet. But I'm keeping my eye on them. They'll be immediately removed if I do notice any.

I currently have 6 hidden updates related to 10 and telemetry.
I think it would be around 11 if I'd skipped the WU client updates too.

I don't understand the point as to why someone would want to remove them.

Paranoia, perhaps. I'd like to know why MS is rolling them out now piecemeal. Why not offer the upgrade package when a user wants it? My guess is they are trolling for install information to see what impact there will be when a W7 user actually tries to upgrade to W10. It won't be me.

If you install windows 10 and agree to the license you also agree to allow Microsoft to snoop on your machine including but not limited to using a key log to see what you are doing.

If a court wanted to do this it would require a court order!!!

Security consultant with over 40 years of experience suggests go to Unix such as Red Hat as it has been around for a long time and you can get the source code and even compile it yourself. Red Hat is free and has a windows emulator in it so you can still run windows programs..

As I always waited a few days to install the patches this month, all patches were installed well except one: KB3086255
I have tried to investigate the patch and apparently this disables something that could cause problems for certain programs and games. I read somewhere that some guys already corrected by themselves without the need to patch some time ago. That has time and recently corrected.

What should be done about this patch, and I do not understand well :S
Among the games that I have and that seem to be on the list is Red Alert 2 which I obtained by Origin.

Yesterday I went out I failed to install the patch KB3086255 but now I've been able to install without problems Because what I read it is advisable to have installed this patch so I leave in the meantime.

Is there any way to remove the failed attempt to update history ?

If it is affected, you can temp enable and run the service while you play and stop it after the gaming session.

I don't think you can remove a single update from the list, but it is not my expertise

Red Alert 2 and its expansion work well. It seems that games Steam and Origin version are not affected.

Interesting link GokAy, I didn't knew it was possible to do that. Thanks. I think I'll leave it as a sign that not everything works 100% Another link saved to favorites.

This isn't really about trying to kill Windows 7.
This same update applies to Windows 8.1 and you can't even play safedisc DRM games in Windows 10 at all without hacks.
At least in Windows 7 and 8 they give you a temporary workaround for the issue.
It's a pain in the butt yes. And no doubt will cause people issues with older games on disc. Safedisc and SecuROM have been a pain in the butt from day one! This doesn't make things any easier though.

MS wants to see the W8 series killed off even more than they want to kill W7.

At least W7 is successful and popular, whereas the W8 series is a total failure.
The W8 series market performance is worse than Vista's was.
I'm surprised that they haven't collect up all of the installer discs and buried them in the desert (like the legendary ET game).

What I was alluding to is that the only way to stop this garbage is to disable WU, which means you may as well be using XP (i.e. no new updates will be available).

If we are to believe the claims of MS (and others) this means that your PC is likely to trigger a "thermonuclear holocaust" within seconds of connecting it to the Internet.
