Logitech Quickcam 4000 Pro very slow!

Yes, I know Logitech Quickcam 4000 is very old and not officially supported in Windows 7.... But eventually my Windows 7 (32 bit) does eventually find a fully functional driver for it. Both camera and built-in microphone are reported as "Logitech Quickcam 4000 pro" in the Device Manager and driver version 10.5.1.2023.

So everything looks OK and it does functionally work, but... I get only about 1 frame per second! so it is not usable in Skype. However, on the same PC with Windows XP or Linux Mint I get nice streaming video, so it is definitely a software or configuration issue of some kind.

I did also look for a Vista driver and installed it manually, but that appears to be the same driver as the one that Windows finds. I know some other people have a Quickcam 4000 pro working properly in Windows 7 so I hope to get some advice here. I just hate to buy a new camera for this because it works well on the same PC on XP or Linux!

Have you installed the quick cam software with it? QuickCam® Pro 4000 - Logitech Support and i doubt it but does it have a setting in that software for it having like anti flicker settings and its set to something odd? These are settings on mine and can cause some issues like that at times if set wrong (9000 Pro) but I don't know if yours supports these things.

I have the same cam. don't try using it as full function, just let the system do what it can and it will be fine. I can webcam with my kids on Skype or play with naked chicks on those sites with no problems. Auto focus and auto zoom are not going to be available and you will learn to live with it just like the porn models do.

I had already tried that software but none of the settings solve my problem

I'm trying nothing special, just Skype like you do. But it is incredibly slow (~1fps). I've almost given up now but that's a shame because it is still a good camera that works perfect with Skype in Windows XP or Linux Mint.
