Hi BSOD team and fellow members,

I've just done a fresh install on a PC Desktop I bought not too long ago, but only recently had a bit more time to play with it.

My problem is that it will go to sleep fine, but every time it wakes, it crash with a BSOD without fail after about 5 secs each time, bang smack on about the same time, every time.

It boots up fine, shutdowns fine, it even comes out of hibernation fine. I've had it on for a few hours and no BSOD. As long as I don't put it to SLEEP, all is fine.

As mentioned it's a fresh install with only the drivers, MS Essentials, & Firefox installed.

I have tried a few setting changes that I have googled before I tried here: -
Hard Drive to NEVER sleep,
power from 'Balanced' to 'High Performance',
Enabled the HIPM and DIPM [tutorial here at sevenforums],
rechecked all the power cables and SATA cables, even swapped them around from the SSD to HDD [i have 2 drives]
Made sure nothing was plugged into the USB ports other than my mouse and keyboard.

FYI....Haven't applied any Windows updates as yet.

I have attached the dump zip as per the BSOD posting instruction.

Much thanks in advance.

Hi Maco88,

The crash 0xF4(CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION) indicates that a critical component of Windows was modified in the memor, Windows detected it and shutdown the system.
This could be due to an infection, system memory corruption, in some cases drivers and possibly some other things.

Please do the following:
  • Open an admin command prompt
  • Copy/paste "sfc/scannow" (without quotes) and press enter
  • When it finished reboot your system
  • Open again an admin command prompt
  • Enter sfc/scannow again
If sfc/scannow does NOT say "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation", please upload the cbs.log file located at {windows partition}\Windows\Logs\CBS\, if the file is too large try a 3rd party uploader like dropbox, onedrive, google drive, mediafire etc.
System File Check(SFC a.k.a. Windows Resource Protection) needs to have your system rebooted in order for sfc to try to fix the problems that it finds.

Please fill in your system specs
Please follow this tutorial and download the tool. The tool will give you detailed information about your system specs, please fill in your system specs more completely.
How to fill in your system specs:

Thanks axe, I will run a sfc scan as per your instructions and report back.

I take it the minidump did not reveal something more definitive??

Just a little baffled as to why this is only happening on wake up from SLEEP and nothing else. Waking up from hibernate, booting in cold, and general use, there is no BSOD? Can corrupt drivers or possible infection really isolate the crashes this way? Obviously I'm no expert, but trying to get a better understanding of this error???

Appreciate the help

Ok, ran the sfc scan and it came up with - Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation

Other things I tried in the meantime:

* Swapped all the drive sata ports but still happens no matter which port the boot drive is plugged in.
* Ran the system with only the main boot drive [SSD] while i had the other stroage drive and the Blueray unplugged, still got a BSOD crash when it woke from SLEEP.

Did a few tries and noticed on each wake from "SLEEP" after about 10 sec each time, system seems to be trying to load something as the cursor changes to a spinning circle, and after a further few seconds it crashes with a BSOD. Seems the sequence is exactly the same each time.

I will mention again it comes out of "hibernation" fine.

* Ran a FULL system scan with Malwarebytes, MS Security Essentials, and MS Malicious software removal tool just incase of an infection, but all clean!!

As my previous post, this is still a fresh install, and I haven't installed any of the windows updates yet. Should I go ahead and do this??
-
Also I should note under Device Manager - Other Device : there are two devices that need what I assume drivers. (1) Marvell 91xx Config ATA Device and (2) BCM20702A0

I hope this is a bit more info to go on with to narrow this down?

Cheers

If you mean the Windows key, I believe it came with the Desktop from the previous owner.

Why, is there a problem with my key?

According to your specs it is a custom build.
You have an American Megatrends Inc. BIOS and an OEM Product ID.
So far I know AMI only provides BIOS for retail boards.

If this all is right then you have a counterfeit installation.
Troubleshooting a counterfeit installation is useless because it is not known what has been modified to the system.

Sorry, I don't quite follow.

The computer was build using selected parts as per my specs, although I'm not the original owner I bought it as is.

I've check the key and its genuine. I did the re-install using the key I got of the BIOS using Belarc advisor and have activated it online with Microsoft.

What part of all this is a counterfeit installation???

What does that "part" exactly mean, as I do not quite understand ? Are you suggesting my product key is not genuine???

From what I have told you, I am quite positive everything is genuine with my computer, including the product key.

So please let me ask you again. Are you saying that I my product key is not genuine and I am using a pirated copy? Is that what you are saying??

If so, is that the reason, you have not progressed to help?

For the record, I really can't tell you what store built this computer for the original owner, this is how I bought the system, but I am quite sure my key is genuine and not using a pirated copy.

Vendors here in Australia are know to build systems with retail components and provide OEM versions of windows. An OEM copy is a legal copy of Windows, is it not?? I have no idea where you go this info from and it would appear you are mistaken with your assumptions.

An OEM PID is legal, but as it looks like, how it is used according to the logs, it is not legal. I'll go for it and trust what you are saying about it.

The reason why I have not provided any further help is because I want to make sure there is nothing counterfeit on your system.
I have spend enough time trying to help solving BSOD's where the system was counterfeit without realizing it, but I am aware this will happen again in the future unfortunately.

To answer this question,
an infection could certainly cause this as it could want to have the memory to get certain information that something else requests. So the malware integrates itself in the memory, the RAM sends the memory to the driver that requests it and the driver does what the memory contains.
This is just 1 thing that could happen with an infection and it isn't known what could have been done if the system was not shut down.

With drivers it is more complicated, but it could be yes.

Honestly, I don't really know why it only happens with the sleep mode.

Please scan your system with Adwcleaner and test your SSD using chkdsk.

Well I will leave it up to your judgement to decide if I telling you the truth or not, I have provided you enough information for you to decide this, but I will not back down from a challenge to prove my key is real. I did a check as soon as I got home when I bought the system that the key was genuine, I used the key to install and activate Windows online which worked, and that is good enough for me. I will continue using this key on this system as it's intended unless Microsoft tells me otherwise.

Having said that I am understand and respect your decision and any forum member and staff to help only genuine users, I applaud you for that, but if you have ever been wrongly accused of anything, then you may understand where I am coming from.

Thanks, but as I have mentioned, seems my system is clean, however I shall run adwcleaner and test my SSD as you have suggested and report back.

If I may ask again, incase I have missed it in previous posts, did my dump reveal anything that stood out that could be causing this BSOD.

Yes, it is very strange how this seems to happen only waking from 'sleep' and not 'hibernation'

Cheers

Are you able to open taskmanager when waking from sleep?

When i wake from sleep there is always a 10 second window where it will show my desktop [i have it set to wake without requiring a password, so it goes straight to desktop] and then crashes. This is consistant with every BSOD I've had,in that the crash happens at about the same time, each time.

As for am I able to open Task Manager, I haven't tried. When I wake from sleep each time, I just wait and see what happens.

Do you want me to try and open task manager within that the 10sec window before it BSOD ??

Yes, we need to know what processes are active at that time.

I doubt I can open up Task Manager, take a screen shot and save it, all in 10 secs before i get the BSOD, but I can try.

Is there any other particular method you recommend I can try to get this information under 10 secs???
