I wonder why I'm being offered this update on Win 7 when that page states it's for Win 8.1 and Server 2012 ?

OK so I replied too soon - the KB post only references Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012:

To apply this update, you must have April 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (2919355) installed in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2.

We posted at the same time, but i think we posted the same question as to what OS this update really applies to.
I won't attempt to install this on W7 (or W8.1) until i read it works...
To me, it seems something is wrong with this update published today.

I'm on W8.1 now and here is what i see for updates published today.
KB3095649 is one of the updates

KB3095649 installed just fine into a W7pro64bit Virtual Machine.

I'll wait a while before putting it on a live computer.

I haven't seen that one although I have not checked for any updates
Heck I just loaded last weeks round yesterday
I do not manually check for updates anymore
If they come them come if not oh well

Depending on your OS, there are two 'fixes' in this update.

From KB3095649:

Issues fixed in this update

• Removes the Touch Hardware Quality Assurance (THQA) certification verification check in the Win32k.sys driver in Windows 8.1.
• Font files remain open by the system, and can't be deleted when they're used in a call to CreateScalableFontResource in Windows Server 2012 R2.

So Windows leaves Files open after they are called by CreateScaleableFontResource.


Looks like they are doing some CYA in software, as there is no mention of Windows 7 in the KB.


My guess is the files get left open in WIn 7 as well. Won't cry if the fix does prevent crashes.

The only difference I see is the one I have and the one from Layback's link are the same size (1.5MB) the one you're showing for 8.1 is 3.3. I'm going to hide mine and see if MS comes up with a more valid description for Windows 7.

I'm just hiding the damn misery KB. until Microsoft can explain what it is and who should have it. I hope the term (bend over) isn't in the explanation.

It appears completely irrelevant to my Windows 7 standalone machines, and as an unchecked optional update with no relevance to me it goes straight into the "hidden" dump.
