Optimizing, tweaks, registry settings, downloading and installing various doodad apps just for fun?
Of course you have a recent system image backup and there is always (should be) some system restore
points. Here's a nice little tool to use before making fun adjustments to your system but screw up.
Single Click Restore Point (SCRP) is a tool for creating a restore point in single click.
OK so you know how to already do a System Restore but it takes a few keystrokes. This is simpler.
SCRP.EXE I put mine in documents but you can put it anywhere like other system tools.
It is not installed but merely a file to click and it will make you a Restore Point. Comes in very handy.
I put mine in Task Scheduler to do this every couple days. When you get ready to do full system image
backups, use Disk Cleanup and under Advanced Options you can remove all but last System Restore
Point. Depending on your setting for space to hold these points, there could be many or just a few.
Use it in good health.

SCRP.exe is not a virus or trojan. If you were infected with a virus, trojan or any malware and then
do a System Restore from a created restore point after the infection well, yes, you will restore the virus.
I took scrp.exe apart and the strings are not remotely dangerous.
My computer is like Ft Knox. No site I visit or program I d/l gets malware on my system.
Use it, don't use it, makes no difference to me. I will continue use as I have for last couple months.
Your concern is noted.

The original is not spooky but if you have doubts (I have none) here is another one:
View attachment SysRestorePoint_v14.zip If opens with WinRAR.zip, save and extract file where ever it's convenient.
It does not install but merely on demand only unless you use task scheduler.

I never was able to get System Restore to work in any of my Win 7 machines (although it worked fine for me most of the time in XP) so I turned it off. Instead, I use Macrium Reflect to image my C: drive.

Windows 7 Restore Points work for me and always have.
Maybe one of Baddog22556 suggested programs would be helpful for you.
I also use Macrium Reflect but I'm sure not as much as you do.

My Windows 7 restore works - in principle. Problem is that the restore points sometimes disappear. I never found out what causes this behavior. That's why I use Macrium on a regular basis. At least that works all the time.

This is also what I do even if the restore works. it seems every virus a client brings to my work has already taken out all of the points by the time we are called in. It's hit or miss.

Restore Points can be lost if the "C" partition is getting close on free space availability.

Personally I would not want to use a Restore Point on a infected computer.
Their is a chance the infection also got into the Restore Points.

System Restore just keeps a backup record of all the system files and settings on your computer on the
local hard drive and has nothing to do with personal files or data. It's a small file of 1-1.5GB.
The only problem I ever had was not doing a System Restore except in Safe Mode. But that was cleared
up long ago by updates probably. Restore Points are made automatically but to be safe make one before
you start messing with the OS or registry. This does not and should not take the place of a full System
Backup like a clone or image. I prefer image and it's always worked. Not to say the world won't blow up
tomorrow but then restore points or a thousand complete system image backups are worthless.
I have my disk space usage for restore points set at 5% (about 35GB). System Protection/Configure.

Exactly, Wolfgang. Even in XP, System Restore didn't always work. Macrium Reflect, on the other hand, has never failed to restore a verified image.

I use Restore Points, Clones and Images.
Clone on one SSD and a Image on another SSD and of course Restore Points on the "C" partition of a separate SSD.

If all that fails I surly have a bad day going for me.

Restore Points are always on the same disk but NEVER, NEVER, NEVER put your complete system image
on your system disk even if on another partition. If disk crashes and burns, you and your data are toast.
This falls under "Common Sense". That would be a good thread to start. I'll research it.

One set of images should be on a disk that is normally disconnected. That way it is safe from even the remotest malware threat.

I personally only keep 1 SSD installed on my system at one time unless I backing up or making a clone.
At times I use another ssd or flash drive to thinker with things.
I use Hotswap bays so it is simple to do. When I'm done tinkering I just format the SSD and put it away for safe keeping.

Going by that, I've lost track of what kind of noid I am. Lessee, frequent images stored on a drive in my computer and backed up to four different HDDs: two onsite and two offsite. Does that make me a quintuploid? Ack! I'm getting a headache!
