Thats unfortunate

Disappointing to hear that, this is a computer I bought used, there is a product key on the bottom, but it doesn't work because its for a different kind of windows, would it be possible to receive instruction on how to use that one.

Hi VP,

2 options
The reset to factory option might still be there if it wasn't over-written.

I suspect the sticker states W7 home premium.
If it does and option1 is not available to you. Know anyone with an acer with the same version (W7HP) or anyone who has a downloaded 3rd party iso.

Roy

All OEM product keys are on the Internet. There is no reason to try and hide them. They cannot be used to "self-activate" an installation without a matching OEM SLIC table entry in BIOS and a matching OEM certificate on the hard drive. The key shown is Acer's OEM key for W7 Ultimate.

edit: I agree that this key does not belong on this laptop. This post was just to speak to the futility of Googling an OEM key.

The OEM SLP stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer, System Locked Pre-install. If this computer was originally supplied with Windows 7 Home Premium, which seems likely as the OP has said the activation code on the bottom is different, then it will not activate with Windows 7 Ultimate.

The Activation code is locked to the motherboard, which is what is meant System Locked Pre-install. So changing the operating system will always bring up the "Not Genuine" notification.

The only way around this is to reinstall the same version of Windows that it was originally sold with. The sticker on the bottom should tell you what version of Windows that is. Then if you can borrow an installation DVD of the same version from a friend, you can install it & using the activation code on the bottom of the computer it should then work properly.

Do what touchwood said first. If you have a OEM factory restore partition on the hard drive try that first. If you do not, you need to download a copy of Windows 7 that matchs the sticker on the bottom of your computer. You can download it from Microsoft. Use the key on the sticker.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7

Before you reinstall Windows back up your documents, pictures, music, videos and anything else you want to keep. One thing I always do is go to Device Manager and expand every item in there. Then take pictures of everything. If your phone has a camera you can use that. Just make sure you get everything and you can read it. After you install Windows go back into Device Manager and see what items are "unknown". Then you can look at your pictures and see what's missing.

Another thing I do is go to the manufacturer's website and download all the drivers for the computer. Start with your wifi and network card drivers. Just in case Windows don't have one you can use them to get on the Internet.

After you have Windows installed, go on the Internet and hopefully it will activate by itself. If it does not you have to call Microsoft and get them to activate it.

You can not use an OEM key off the COA to download an iso file from Microsoft, we have been over this a million times.

But you can download an iso file of the version you need from here and burn to dvd and no more then x4 speed with this simple program.

Microsoft DigitalRiver Mirror

Free ISO Burner

You will ned to install utorrent to download the iso file, don`t install any extra offered garbage.

?Torrent® (uTorrent) - a (very) tiny BitTorrent client

If the COA is not for Windows 7 then you are out of luck, but you could try this site for other versions of windows.
