When my Sky+ box died. Itried to find a program to retrieve programs from the hard drive. The program I choose was designed for XP, but I thought I would give it a try. It was useless, But since then, to outsiders looking in' it appears as an XP machine. For example, my Adobe subscription will not allow upgrades because XP machines are not supported. When I right click on 'My Computer' the system description is blank. It is a genuine Scan Win 7 machine with all up-to-date upgrades loaded. Any thoughts please?

My first thoughts use a restore point prior to install of the XP programme.

Restore point

Thank you, Roy.

Unfortunately it took me a long time to realise there was a problem and I don't have a restore point for that time. But thanks for taking the trouble to reply.

Thank you for your welcome, Ranger and your offer of help.
I was first directed to a program called 'Copy+' from a google search. From there a link to another program called '+Extract'. It was that program which was supposed to rip the recordings from the Hard Drive and convert them to a format which could be viewed on a PC. It singularly failed to identify any of the recording so I eventually gave up and deleted the programs.

Post a screen capture of the output window by running winver from the Run box.
Press Windows key + R, type winver and press Enter.
Press Alt+Print Screen to capture the Winver output window.
Open Paint by clicking on the Start button , typing paint and pressing Enter.
Press Ctrl+V to paste the winver output into paint. Save it as a .jpg then upload here.

Roy, you are a hero. Thank you so much. The first scan found problems which were corrected, the other two were clear. But right clicking on my computer confirms I have a win 7 machine.
Again, thank you so much.

Dear Ztruker,
Thank you for your response. You may have noticed Roy has solved my problem. But to confirm all was well I did run 'winver', and it confirmed I'm back to being a windows 7 user. I was unaware of this facility and it certainly would of helped earlier on when I could not understand why I could not get upgrades.
Thanks again.
Regards
James
