Error 8007000e when updating on Win7 Ultimate fresh install

Hi all

I have reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate on my granddaughters' HP Pavilion Slimline. That was the original OS on it, but, somehow Win 10 got updated on it by accident. MS is constantly putting up free Win 10 upgrade notices across the top of the browsers with an X to select which normally is ignored. However, I think that somehow at one point the X got clicked and installed the dang Win 10 and the computer has not worked properly since, and then finally would not load up at all.

I did a clean install of the original Win7 Ultimate which managed to put things back to normal. However, when I tried to do the updates it started out normally, but, then I keep getting the error 8007000E just after it starts.

I have read the threads here regarding the error and they don't give me much clue about my problem. I also checked on-line about the error and there are some supposedly fixes for the error, however, I am not anxious to try them as I may get more problems than the one I have.

I am a a long time MS Tech Beta Tester and was on the Win7 beta, but, never incurred the 8007000E error to remember any of the other BT's getting it. I am in hopes someone can give me a clue as to why I am getting this error and how to fix it so I can do the necessary updating on the new install.

I would truly appreciate any suggestions or assistance on this matter.

I will have to wait until I can go to her house this weekend to check what you request. However, since this was a clean install and there were no updates installed, if any, as the error showed up right away. But, I will get a screen shot of what is there and post it back here. She needed to take the computer back home as her eldest daughter needs it to do some research for her school classes the is taking this summer. So please be patient and I will post the information as soon as I can get to the PC. Just so I am sure which log you are asking for, where do I find the log, from the Control Panel Update list? Or is there another place I need to look for?

I have a question...when I did the clean install of the Win7 it created the Old Windows folder which is normal. However, I am wondering if something in that Win 10 old file could be causing the problem and if I should just delete it and see if I get the same error. Since there is such a difference between the two OS's, could it be that something in the Win10 system is causing the error.

Hi Roy,

Where do I find the Windowsupdate log you requested? Is it from the Windows Update list in the Control Panel or some other file? Not sure where to look. I now have the computer and will work on it from my home as time allows which will make it much easier and hopefully save time.

I have checked on the Internet for that file, but, not sure which one is the one I need to run. Some I don't feel safe with as they are from sites I am not familiar with.

I have a question..I CAN download and install Windows Updates without any problem however I too have
an uninstalled KB971033, which says it is a pending update unlike all others I receive, and since the box isn't checked I don't want to risk installing it...This PC is a factory new (NOT refurbished or a return,ect) OEM Acer desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium and is a genuine product purchased from Newegg.com last year. Should I install that update anyway or just keep ignoring it?

This update is a hotfix, primarily for your type of problem Tink.
It ALSO serves as a back-up validation check and will re-catogorise the other way as well, it can identify a non-genuine system and flag it on a computer (control panal >> system screen).

Then tried to run the Windows Update again from the Control panel and got the same Error I got the first time I tried, about the 8007000E.

I also ran the MGA tool again and got the results as attached. I'm not sure what is causing the update blockage error. I have deleted the Windows.old folder totally, so not sure what is still causing the issue.
