IE 11 No Longer Will Play Some Videos

Just recently when visiting some sites I always visited in the past, when I click on some videos IE11 reports "This browser does not support video playback". When I right click on the videos it shows as HTML5. They used to play fine in Flash (and do play in FireFox). It does work in YouTube but not all sites. How do I get IE 11 to play HTML5 in the nonworking sites?

I'm not really sure what your problem is but I have some suggestions.

Check Windows 7 Updates and see if their are any for I.E.

Fill in your system specs including what security programs you are using.
We need to know what we are working with.

All IE updates have been performed previously.
Using Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus with Windows firewall.
Running Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit on Intel I7 920, 6GB Memory, homebuilt desktop.
Comcast Internet 175mg download/12mg upload speed.
Never had a problem until various sites began switching to HTML5 recently.
Noticed also, that if I bring up AOL Desktop Software and use its browser (IE based) on its news videos, the AOL video ads play but the actual videos never do. I just get a spinning icon as if loading continuously
Will look into system specs.

Browser compatibility for HTML5 videos is still diverse and mainly depends on the video format use on the website. IE in particular is specially limited in this aspect. There is little you can do if the website can't provide a fallback to another format or to a Flash based player.

First of all check if you haven't accidentally disabled Flash on IE, perhaps the problem is on your side. Most video sites use Flash for playback, with a handsome using HTML5 native players, or some mix of both when support isn't there.

But if the site has completely removed Flash player and your browser don't support the video format, there isn't much you can do, sort of using another browser, or downloading the video and use your normal video player to view it locally.

Basically from my understanding IE11 for win7 is messed up ver unlike the ver in win8, the browser settings default seem to be set to edge (I think any MS brsower was set to edge before... but in case I wrong it may mean the browser is set to use Win10 edge)

My theory though is that since flash is build-in in win8's IE11 most sites think we use the win8's version and looking for the addons on the wrong place

Anyway a mini fix I found was to open the developers tools using F12, go to EMULATION tab and change the Document mode and User agent string to 10 (in both)


However after closing the dev tool window the settings will move back to default...

MS showed we can use this reg if we want to force it to use 10, though it just for the document mode
