Error 8007000e when updating on Win7 Ultimate fresh install

Hi Tink,

What a wally:o, get so used to working on 64's forget about 32'ers.

Can you confirm some details please,

Looked at the specs for that desktop??
The 32 bit version only comes with a max of 4GB of RAM, but not all of this is available,
(depends on what been hard allocated to the graphics card)
Ultimate ALLEDGEDLY requires min 3GB,

What is showing here Control panel >> system

The error code equates to OUT OF MEMORY, even thou its got a 1TB HDD.

You said that you did a clean install, in that case there should NOT be a windows.old folder
This folder is currently only created by the W10 install.
Was it actually a system repair??
OR did you set up a new partition and install W7 on that??
OR do you get the select OS screen on a clean boot?

Roy

Glad you got it installed.
Now we have to just wait for Roy's next instructions.

Layback Bear, I'm still here, and waiting for to hear from Roy for more instructions. I will only be able to keep the PC a couple of more days before it has to go back. All works fine other than the inability to update, so the PC will be needed to access the Internet for school work at home.

Hopefully, I will hear something while I still have access to the PC here to save time. However, I do understand that computer access is limited for Roy, and.... there is life beyond PC's. (big smile)

I truly appreciate all the help and assistance I have received from thus far from you both. And now it is my turn to be patient.;)

Hi Tink,

Roy

Hi Roy, I am sorry that I will not be able to have sufficient access to the PC for a while, as the kids just went back to school yesterday and came and picked up the PC to day to do some of their assignments. I was waiting for your further instructions, but, did not hear from you until today. I will keep the instructions you posted today and when I get a chance to get with the PC again I will do them and post back here. But, as I said, it might be a while before I can do that now. Since the PC runs OK other than the updating issue, I will try to get the PC again when they have a a few days where they don't need it.

I am sorry that I am not able to do the instructions at this time, but, will post the results back here as soon as I have the chance to do them. I have copied the instructions and the link to this discussion so I won't lose track of it.

Thank you very much for your time and help thus far, I truly do appreciate it.

No, it as not a repair. I didn't install Win 7 on a separate drive, nor did I get a select OS n boot up. I have dual booted many time when beta testing on my laptop, so I am familiar with that kind of set-up. Win 7 is the only one it shows and it boots right into Win7 on start up. When I have installed a different Windows OS on my own PC's and laptop it will normally show a windows.old, so I didn't think anything about seeing that folder.

All things work fine other than the update function. All apps work as they should. I had to give the PC back to my granddaughter so right now I can't check anything. But, as soon as I get a chance to get access to it again I will check the Control panel >System. But, it may be a while. As soon as I can get the information you request I will post back here.

I have never had a Clean Install leave a Windows Old folder.

This information should be helpful; I think.

Information
If you performed repair install, upgrade install, or a custom install without formatting the drive for a clean install and selected to install Windows 7 on the same partition of the previous Windows installation, then you may have a C:\Windows.old folder left over in your new installation.

If you already had a C:\Windows.old folder in the installation that you performed a repair install, upgrade install, or a custom install on, then it would be renamed to say C:\Windows.old.000 (older previous installation) in addition to the C:\Windows.old folder. The most recent previous installation will always be in the C:\Windows.old folder.

This will show you how to delete the Windows.old folder(s) generated during the installation to free up the hard drive space that the Windows.old folder(s) takes.

Thank you for the information Layback Bear. I will make sure to save it and when I get a chance to have access to the PC again I will perform the steps to clean the system files as described.

And yes, I did do a Custom install as opposed to a repair. I have never had any problems with doing installs over existing OS's before, so I chose this method s opposed to totally reformatting the drive. Thus, I understand why I got the windows.old folder.

Once I have performed the steps provided in the information, I will post back the results. However, it may be a while before I get get the PC for a few days to work with.

Thank you both for your time and help, I really do appreciate it.
