How can I do this on Win7?

Ok remember how in vista or xp when you went to start and run and typed in calc or msconfig or notepad and hit run it would run ? But now in windows 7 I have to type in the entire directory with sub directory to run the program.

how can I fix this.

HI, I just tried all of those on my Win 7 Ultimate install and they did exactly what they were supposed to so I have no clue why it isn't working for you.

Yeah, I don't have any problems typing notepad, calc or otherwise in Widows 7 and having it launch the app just like it did in XP or Vista.

just click on start and type in the search box and it will bring it up above where you type and click on it to run it

eg calc or msconfig or notepad

Ok, I goto start and search, type in for example Calc, nothing comes up. I believe I disabled something but cant remember what. Also why does it have to search for the file first, cant I just run a file without having to search for it first and type out a long location of the file, like files in the system folder for example?

you need to configure search to tell it where to index and search. You can easily run from search. foe ex type cmd in search

Ok I figured out the problem, all I was looking for was the run button lol, I found out that pressing the windows button + r does that. The problem was because of this taskbar, Im not use to it, I like the old start>run version. Speaking about that, anyway to bring that back into Win 7 ? Also I had indexing turned off all along.

You can also add the Run command to the start menu using the customize start menu options Right click Start orb - Properties

Thanks! I looked earlier but missed it, but yeah its there, damn im blind.

Right click on the Start Orb and select properties and then customize then go down the list and make sure Run command is checked.
