The other link just shows a lot of out of date updates to try for existing installs all that is needed for a clean install I already posted
An existing install would only need KB3020369 & KB3172605 usually.

Well, I'm not saying there is something "wrong" with the ISO I used, but do you agree that the windows essentials program files should not be on my C Drive, on a brand new SSD, and a new install of the OS?

I don't see any other odd things, and it seems to be working ok.....I hate to start over now.

Before I read your latest posts, I was letting windows update do it, and was doing them 10 at a time, to be "safe". Then, on the last 180, I let it go, and it might be stuck on installing 4 of 180, but I'm going to let it go for a bit, as it doesn't always show all the progress, and then it goes right to the end.

That said, if it stays stuck, can I simply go back to that catalog, and use the standalone installer, and cut to the chase? Also, should I restore back to before I did the updates, or will it install any that are existing, right over the top?

As far as the wle being installed with windows on the iso = no it is not there at all.

Updating wise you might have gotten it
I would usually Exclude recommended updates from being installed and only focus on the Important ones by using these update settings to separate them properly


But again with the unofficial sp2 KB3125574 now being usable which it also would not include wle or now just windows essentials 2012 it's a heck of a lot easier to clean install without all of the hoops to jump through installing updates afterwards

I always create system images before downloading and installing windows updates it is mandatory now

The installs are progressing now, so I'll see how it goes. I know it's the hard way, but I'm almost there. The other day, I got the "can't configure up dates, reverting back" error, so that is my only fear now. And yes, I only did important updates.

Sometimes I am, regettably.

If this install/configuring of updates goes south on me, can I simply do those 3 updates, right over the top of whatever was already installed? I hope that made sense.

Probably best.

I'll know soon, it's more than two thirds through installing them, as long as they all configure, and it doesn't revert back.

Shouldn't Live essentials 2012 be one of the optional updates? I'd still try to install it that way, if I had that option. I think it just won't do it with those program files on there.

You just have to cull through the recommended updates to find it

Like I said the rollup will get you updated through April 2016 in one update

Worst case the way you are now beside rolling back you could have a lot of failed to install updates which has been pretty common occurrence pretty much why I lean towards installing the 3 updates manually now

Yeah, it just had 19 updates fail to install. It's supposedly configuring the other 164, or whatever it was, right now. Won't surprise me if it fails again, and reverts. If it does, I'm going to go back to yesterday, after I had cleaned the update cache in the download folder, and then just do those three.

To make sure I understand......does it give you the option to check which ones you want or don't want, just like the windows update? Just making sure.

Also......since I read all this talk about the windows update client being updated, and causing update to get stuck at searching for updates, and a bunch of other problems, would I need to update that before updating those 3 updates?

The newest update client is the 3rd update to manually install after the first two
The first and third update usually does wonders on older existing installs with update searching issues.

A clean installs starts with issues as soon as it connects to the internet windows auto installs a horrible update client at that point it's hosed until KB3020369 & KB3172605 are installed
Problem then is installing so many updates that have been now done away with.

Best solution is to start from scratch and install these three in this order KB3020369 & KB3125574 & KB3172605 unless you're just bored and gluten for punishment that is

Ok I'll check. I'm not thrilled doing it this way, but it's been going on for a while, so hate to just change the whole process now.

Seriously.....I got all the important updates, and I didn't see those two. Should I install them anyway?

Also, I'd still like to try and get live essentials on there, so do you think it would hurt to reboot in safe mode, delete the windows live program files from the c drive, as well as windows live related registry keys, and try to install it one more time?

Ok.....I tried both, and it told me that KB3020369 was already installed. And then it told me that KB3172605 was not applicable to my computer?? Does that make sense?
