Chrome has way more add-ons built in than really needed java even flash player when most websites are going html5 for video playing...

Best thing you can do with Chrome is never install it
It corrupts the default search provider in win-10 and still does it I believe in win-7 once uninstalled.

I'm a bit lost...

So I just pulled up a video on internet explorer and my cpu usage went up to 90-100% again and the video couldn't even play smoothly, but I think this has to do with the website itself.

So.. I just went on YouTube on Chrome and I looked up videos. The cpu usage went up higher but not to 100% (30-60%)

I went on Internet Explorer and I did the same and the percentage was around the same but a bit less compared to chrome.

So should I uninstall chrome?

Yes I do agree my computer is aging but I'd think that it should still be fine for windows 7 considering it had Vista, you know?

Hi,
First basic things to do with Chrome settings is to uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available,
Also Uncheck allow extensions to run while chrome is closed.

Review all extensions chrome shows and either disable them or delete them.

Just that might help other browsers.
In ie11 it has the same basic setting except they are by using the Gear symbol on the top right and select Internet options
Go to the Advanced section and check the top box Use software rendering instead of hardware rendering/ apply and okay.
Then go to Manage addons from the gear symbol and Toolbars and extensions section on the left column
On the bottom switch to Show all add-ons.

There if you see Java Oracle listed disable all of them.
Flash object you can disable unless a website insists on using flash player but usually all you would need to do is F5 to refresh the page to get a video to play on youtube.

Disable Silverlight.

Hi it's not going to help chrome using too much resources though nothing does but might help a tad.
The other setting will help out if chrome is indeed closed and another browser is being used.
Best policy is to Not have a lot of tabs open in any browser especially chrome.

Hi, thank you very much I never knew that chrome had such a feature.

I have disabled hardware acceleration and background apps.

I will get back in a bit to let you know how my temps are.

Bad news...

My computer is honestly worse than it was last week. For some odd reason, it's getting to be very, very hot.

It goes from 67 to 80 degrees Celsius in a matter of seconds and sometimes it stays at 80 even when I'm away, sometimes it doesn't.

My only other solution is to use my cooling pad I have, and as a last resort would be changing the CPU usage in my power options..

I'm stuck at this point.

All browsers aside, the computer runs hot regardless. I'm getting a bit nervous now...

Anything else you think I should do before I try and use the cooling pad?

I hope this helps you ThrashZone. After just a quick search I see that this is a known problem with these computers. I did this search because I like Chrome LOL, and did not think it was the problem. The one that had the Nvidia Graphics was also an issue, I don't think you have that though?

Yea it helps confirm our first beliefs I believe on page 1 that the thermal paste would be a good thing to change but Logo won't do that so reason for the thread to replace the unit.

I don't believe Chrome is really helping matters much not Logo having too many tabs open in chrome which just makes chrome more resource hungry which translates into more heat.

All browsers soak up resources but ie11/ firefox/.. not nearly as much as chrome.

The laptop has intel integrated graphics and that post from 2014 was on a diff laptop of my same model that had nvidia on it, but this one doesn't have the nvidia chip.

I ran the scan and I appear to have no viruses according to malware bytes.

I understand what you mean about replacing thermal paste, but I am so hesitant to open up this laptop because I do not want to break anything.. I worked on my alienware m14x r1 laptop a month ago and followed a tutorial online as much as I could. I put it back together and smoke came out of the power button.. I have no idea what I did wrong. I still have the laptop hoping to fix it one day. I don't want the same happening to this laptop because this is my last shot, that's why I'm hesitant.

Logically you have two choices: Fix this one or get another one. If you decide to get another one, and get all your info off this one, then you will be free to TRY and repair this one. That way you will have a spare if you succeed. If you break it then it won't matter as it is just your backup at that point. It is quite old also so not a huge loss, although I'm still using my 06 HP Laptop quite well as many others are. I suggest using this tutorial to fix it, or you can just take apart, clean, and reapply the Thermal Paste. Some reported that just the clean and re-paste did not work. As you see in this Tutorial there is a piece that MAY be needed to remedy this issue. While this maybe ONLY an issue with the Nvidia Models it may be a good idea to do it anyhow, but you will have to weigh the Scales on that. Depending on your finances and time.

Seemed to work OK but idle temps were still 150-160F and load temps were still 200+.. so I did lots of research and found that Dell had a revision of it's heat sink! The old version had no copper contact for the GPU but the new (DT785) heatsink did. I jumped on eBay and picked up one for 5 bucks and some new Artic silver thermal paste. now idle temps are (115-125F) and load temps are 150-152 MAX. Success! Now onto some other info..."
