Solved Xvid-1.3.4-20150621.exe Safe?

Have you come upon a video file compressed into .xz (Xvid)?

After a very bad experience d/loading what appeared to be the right codec I'm very hesitant to open
Xvid-1.3.4-20150621.exe

So I'd really like to find out if this executable is safe before opening it.
Have you tried it? was it clean?
Do you know of any way to test this file?

Look forward to hearing from anyone who has experienced this file type.

I haven't come across it before but I just downloaded a video contained in an .xz compressed folder.

Basically you have to extract the file using your file archiver software. I use PeaZip 64bit. You could use 7-Zip or similar.

So this screenshot shows original compressed file, extracted file (no extension) and renamed file with .mp4 extension based on videoinfo.

Here is the video playing.

No need to install codecs. Just need to determine video file format from the extracted file info.

What is your media player?

Personally I ditched WMP and keep it disabled in "Turn Windows Featues On/ Off"

My vid player is VLC although I still have Win Media Center and use WMP for music.

The vids I want to see are : .wmv and .avi

I suppose I should point out that video is playing in PotPlayer 64bit with MadVR plugin - not WMP.

If you know the format of the video in the compressed .xz file just extract in and rename it with the correct file extension.

Installed 7-Zip but it can't open either file.

Not sure what this means:

How can it be extracted?
What I'd like is format MP4 as I can play that directly via the TV set.
So how would you change this file to MP4?

If the extracted file is .avi format there's no need to rename it to .mp4 - I was suggesting that if the exrtacted file had no extension - try .mp4

Extacting a file: Right click your .xz foler and choose extract from right click menu. Extract to a new folder. Exact steps depend upon software used.

You know, my strong feeling is that the 2 video files I wanted to open were infected and loaded with all the junk I got first time.
They're deleted now and I have the checking tools that you and Anak have showed to me.
