Hi,
After letting 10 sit for 6 months I used it briefly last Sunday to do a benchmark.. and 7 benches better
So I'd say many have both os's but there have been many trying to install 7 on newer machines just because it is as I've always said 10 is just buggy and unstable
I've lost count on how many refresh installs I've done to 10
I've never had to do it to 7 except to get rid of factory crapware which 10 has so much it makes manufacture crapware look docile :p

I've not gone back to it, there are 4 machines here that all run 10. 2 of them are new desktops that came with it installed and the other 2 are laptops, 1 came with 7 and was upgraded to 10 and my laptop came with 8 and again was upgraded to 10.

I see no reason to go back to 7 even though I have retail versions of 7. 10 does all I need and I don't go looking for faults where there aren't any.

I'm happy with what I have. :D

Hi,
lol you don't have to look very far for obvious flaws
When I want to shutdown that is exactly what I want to do not have 10 insist on installing updates ;)
Many others but that is the most obvious to me one does not have to look very hard to find :p

And no Shawn's reg file does not work.

I use 10 for work, and overall, it isn't too bad. However the constant updates keep breaking things like Excel, CAD programs that I have to use, and messing with my settings. Not to mention all of the blue screens when I do use Excel or the CAD programs, or just simply crashing to desktop. Over the course of one project, I lost two weeks of work when Windows crashed and corrupted all of the saves in the save folder. Backup saves were also affected. (Win 10 had also stopped backing up to our NAS every night without notification.) I had to reinstall 7 and dual boot to finish the project as the software would no longer save files after a Windows update.

But other than that, Windows 10 is wonderful! (as long as you don't use it for anything mission critical.)

I only use 7 in a VM just for playing around with once in a great while. . .10 has never in reality given me any problem, thus see no reason to be using an old OS like 7. Also I will not judge those who choose to use any other OS other then 10. Why HP Spectra 2 in 1 came with 10, and has not as of yet had a problem, and,my new Dell 3650 is a 10 machine, and again no problems as of yet. . .:)

Windows XP and 7 is still the king for me I will never use window 8/8.1. Windows 10 has a lot of things to improve on. I'm not a big fan of this new operating system until now. I'm using it at our office but I'm forced to install, classic shell to make it fully functional. The windows metro is so lame and I really hate it. I'm a user since Windows 95. I'm grow up with windows but I hate this latest addition!

What a great positive review.

W-10 is working great, if one doesn't count all the programs and missions it corrupts.

Not from checking the statistics from Seven Forums Compared with those from Ten forums. There are quite a few people who visit both sites regularly, this includes the staff, the teams, and a number of other senior members and long standing members

There may be a small minority that joined Ten forums and have returned to Seven Forums exclusively, but the majority who made the move have remained there, with a few that still visit Seven Forums occasionally

It's difficult to be more precise as very few members have asked to close their account on either forum, for any reason, and as far as I am aware no long standing members have done so to specifically return to Seven forums exclusively :)

Spent years making Windows 7 perfect, based on various support on the Net. I have gigabytes of accumulation - info, software and MODs specifically for Seven because it is FAST, shiny, and it's possible to make everything work on it. (To my own surprise, after the faraway Vista debacle!) I'm so lazy I didn't even compile my own custom Windows 7 build yet (!!), too much work to do lol, but I haven't seen a system smoother than mine as of yet, with the tons of optimizations applied (let alone possible). It's not about pride, I'm saying it's possible to do. But Windows 10 shows me how much of it is now IMpossible, broken, hidden or plain removed. (Undocumented tweaks anyone?) Even worse, all my friends have Windows 10 and I don't even want to visit them anymore, because their computers are the slowest, 'unoptimizable' pieces of skunk I've ever had nightmares about. I feel like a 5 year old kid when I see their machines. It's insulting after years of achievements I'd call professional. (Mine, yours, and Microsoft's) I've never seen such amateur software (myself being kind of a script kiddie). Aside from the fragility of a system that can break because of its own medicine, it reeks of control at every corner, limitations, brainwashing, removal of useful features and everything in between that's manipulative Evil-Corp behavior. On top of a nice, sleek... piece of.. colored texture??? - WHAT THE HELL is this ugly design?! After Windows 7, seriously this? ....why on Earth?
The future is here. They think I don't see it. They give you something new in the task manager, but they take away the most useful that's been everywhere else for years. And what's that LAG? Am I being watched? "No offense", but I feel it moronic to install a huge piece of spyware on my AMD machine.

Now why would I ever work on a Windows 10 O/S optimization..? In a year I should finally be able to glue together years of research into an ISO. I can't believe Windows 7 will be retro by then. Windows 10 looks like old garbage compared to the custom Windows 7 look I use, and again all these performance tweaks mean I'll have to build a superjet out of dry dirt again, if I ever get to Windows 10 - sounds like impossible. I have no idea how long I'll be able to use Windows 7 :p

Looks like I'll spend the year trying to put the best of Windows 7 in a "sealed can", and I'll make sure it's 3000 times better than the nightmares I've seen.

The Admirable, Miserable Egi-RaZoRZ.

Hello All,

I haven't been on a Windows Computer for over 2 years as I migrated away from Microsoft as I just didn't care for the direction Microsoft was going with Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 10.

I was cleaning out my electronics shop and ran across my Windows 7 computer which I had set back when I migrated to Linux.
I cleaned and dusted it and decided to connect it and WOW so much had changed in 2 + yrs away from Windows 7 OS.
I finally figured out the update rollup boy what is that all about but I did get my desktop 100% updated and so here I am.

I see Windows 10 is for the most still causing grief for some and still hated by others.
I guess I will keep this Windows 7 desktop up and running since Windows 7 is supported until 2020 and also there are some things that Windows does do better than Linux.

I read how folks just hate windows 10, and to my dismay have yet to figure out why. . .. . .I run three computers, 1) iMac 28" 5K with OS X Sierra, 2) Windows 10, and 3) Windows 7. I also have a HP 2 in 1 with Windows 10. Now the Windows 10 machine blows away the windows 7 in all arenas. . .:). That not to say 7 isn't good, because it is, but as far as the two windows OSes go it really doesn't matter which one I use they both run all the windows software I have without a problem, however, the Mac on that beautiful screen is still my OS of Choice. . .

I don't hate Windows 10 what I hate is what Microsoft does to the end-users who use Widows 10.

Microsoft wants to have full control of your computer and then leaches your personal information by the installation of privacy intrusive updates which is then sold for advertisement purposes to give you a better web experience.

I'm believing that one. :haha:

Microsoft claims to scrub the sensitive personal information but I find that very hard to believe.

Yes I understand that all of this is in the EULA which I read and that is one of the reasons I migrated to Linux so I would have full control of what information is let out over the WWW.

I believe people should use what OS works best for them and also which OS they are most comfortable using.
Windows is a good OS and there are certain things it does better than other OSs do.

No No don't do that!
You make very good sense. :)

You're fine I was just saying that I don't hate Windows 10.
I just don't like how Microsoft is doing things that's all.

I hear a lot of users stating that their reason for not wanting to upgrade from Windows 7 is due to Microsoft's spying, There is a lot of confusion between telemetry and spying. telemetry is an essential part of any complex system, which any operating system must be classed as.

Microsoft has instigated a vast Beta Test program where users volunteer to provide detailed manual feedback to aid in improvement of the OS before the official release, this is extended to small amounts of feedback from the release version to fine tune the OS to work with all the variations that are actually used in the real world. Unlike companies such as Apple that tightly controls the hardware and software so that the variations are minimal between systems and so the testing can be more easily performed.

The whole Windows / PC ecosystem is so many times larger than Apple's (not including iPhone), where a Windows OS is expected to work flawlessly with any variation of hardware and software, that issues are certain to appear after release of the OS when it is used on a combination of hardware and software that is unique. This is where Telemetry is used to fine tune the system.

Telemetry is basically a small amount of data that is captured and used to tune a system. This can be data captured during a failure of the system which helps to prevent the issue causing problems in future, or it can be data from the correct operation of component parts working together (this is normally just of use where an unusual situation is in place, a rare combination or setup). Telemetry has no need to be identifiable to a person, (indeed this would actually reduce the value of the data as it would increase the amount of data transmitted without any extra usable information).

Microsoft does give some options to turn off Telemetry so that will allow a user to control data transfer. The issue is more serious with the home version of Windows 10 where a lot of control has been removed, (the vast majority of users of the Home versions would never even think about changing settings). There are other versions of the OS that are designed for more advanced users and enthusiasts that does allow a lot more control.

Telemetry is an essential part of the world we live in - would anyone demand that the black box and fly-by-wire systems on the aircraft they are boarding be switched off as it may contain their personal Lunch menu? I doubt it ;)

To bad Microsoft doesn't explain the ways of operation as you do.
Perhaps if they did it might be better accepted instead of the ways that they do.
Very well put.
