Heck I'm still on 2.8.10
Never could get the last version to show all the icons under layers.. :/

Ive been using 2.8.10 for a long time as 2.8.14 had weird interface glitches on my PC.

I use GIMP almost every week (wallpapers, screenshots & TAFE subject documentation).

To get GIMP to work properly on my system I have to remove most of win 7 visual effects. Not sure which ones cause the problem. I just set it for best performance and add a few back.

I've never noticed any issues as I always use "Custom" settings for Visual Effects.

One of these day I'll get around to finding which setting is the problem with me but at least I have a very snappy GUI.

Yea I don't use a whole lot of them personally
Haven't tried the new versions in a while either
But I would guess it's the bottom setting :/

GIMP User Settings

Something you could try:

• Create a backup of your GIMP user settings (C:\Users\<username>\.gimp-2.8)
• Delete the current settings and let GIMP create a new set of GIMP user settings

I had an issue with the "Export as jpg" dialog window not showing the estimated file size (after I created a new Windows installation last year).
Creating a new set of GIMP user settings fixed the issue.

I have no idea what caused it, as I was able to transfer my old settings to the new GIMP user settings folder, without causing the issue to reappear.

I have to admit that it is several versions since I tried it with everything selected.

I made a backup image and then installed GIMP.

It passed the "Smoke Test".
I also tried loading a couple of different file formats and then saving the images to other formats.

I might get time to test it more strenuously tomorrow.

Maybe Cliff is just experiencing W10 issues.

Yes maybe. He is also overclocking.

I tried a few more things last night (dynamic brushes and Noise Reduction) and I didn't have any issues.
That said, GIMP has a lot of functions and I don't really know what most of them are supposed to do.

I do have a splash screen glitch, but I also had that in GIMP 2.8.18.

If I start GIMP:

• By itself (Start Menu), the splash screen appears in the top left corner of the screen
• Using an image's context menu option, the splash screen starts in the centre of the screen (like it is supposed to)
