I cannot get chkdsk to run on my C: drive :-(
I tried the menu version:
properties/Tools/check now/start/schedule disk check
It says it will run chkdsk on restart, but does not.

I have tried:
cmd/chkntfs C:
>C:\Windows\system32>chkntfs C:
>The type of the file system is NTFS.
>C: is dirty. You may use the /C option to schedule chkdsk for
>this drive.

chkdsk /r C:
>Would you like to schedule this volume .... the next time system restarts (Y/N)
I answer Y, and still does not check on restar.

I could pull the disk and run chkdsk on another machine.
Any ideas on what is going on?
thanks

Thanks for response.
I did mount it on another laptop and chkdsk found lots of errors.
When I put that disk back to C:, I still cannot run chkdsk on it when mounted as C:
And another identical laptop has the same problem running chkdsk on C:
Any idea why the same problem on two laptops?

Dell E6410

when windows starts it writes a dirty bit to the drive when shut down it clear it if it doesnt shut down correct its stays dirty so windows should run check disk you can clear the dirty bit Manually Reset or Clear Dirty Bit in Windows without using CHKDSK • Raymond.CC - Page 2 but putting it in another pc and checking would but quickest

we have a thread with another solution CHKDSK will not clear dirty tag after chkdsk c: /r ? - Windows 7 Help Forums

Here is the result of running chkdsk c:
I had to abort, not sure what it is doing.
Or did you want it to keep running?

I have cygwin installed on these laptops, I wonder ....
I am getting chkdsk from:
C:\Windows\system32\chkdsk.exe
That seems correct, yes?

Have you got an installation DVD boot from that go-to CMD prompt and try from there as it often works better as Windows isn't running
