FF Look in W7 and Vista

I still don't like the way Ff looks in Windows 7 as opposed of the way it is on my Vista machine. Anyway of getting it close? The second one is how it looks in Vista.

These are the FF extensions I like to use to get the UI just the way I like it
- Classic Theme Restorer
- Tab Mix Plus



best suggestion.. you could just copy the entire profile folder over.. that way you will have every setting just the way you set it up on your Vista machine...

I manually sync my FF PROFILE's files like the cookies and book mark file
- cookies.sqlite
- places.sqlite <-- bookmarks and icons
- logins.json <-- stored/saved logins(ie name/PW)
- persdict.dat
- formhistory.sqlite

I generally sync those five files from my main PC my ELITE Gaming rig (desktop) to my Laptop a few times a week as I update things... its more secure but not as easy as say using TOOLS(FF menu) --> "Sign into sync" ie Firefox's built in sync feature.. which I have never actually tried out...

On the other hand if you use your two different PCs for different stuff and need to keep two different FF profiles...then you may not want to copy "all" files over... :/

I'm trying to remember how I did it, its just been many years... :/

I can't remember what the old FF extension was called in Vista...even wrote it down somewhere but you know how that goes. I'm not sure what their "Classic Theme Restorer 1.6.5 would do.

I hate the tabs at the top.

Classic Theme Restorer, it restores the classic square tab look to the newer versions of FF... I couldn't live without it >_<
and it has many other options...

are you saying you no longer have your old machine?

as far as tabs on top there is a setting for that... if you click on the FF UI it should give u a context menu like.
with a button at the bottom labeled "customize"..
and there is a "tabs not on top" button at the bottom middle of that customize screen.. of course that could be part of Classic Theme Restorer...

It is in "AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\zqb2ro5a"

Then adjust "AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles.ini"

to point at it, e.g.

what do you use for email? and I take it you email to yourself right?
the email service is probably destroying it, ie finding it against their TOS...
or.. if its too big...

I would just use a USB Flash drive to move the files... but because you are trying to use email to do it I guess you don't own one...

what are you using to archive the files with?

Windows Live Mail is what I use. Nothing showed in t he received email. I do have a flash drive but thought I could do it via email...apparently not. I'll try the flash drive. Whatever size it is the 4gig flash drive will hold it.

I have done it many times. Not by email, just copy and paste. It could be a few hundred mb.

I can do it with the flash drive no problem. I'm not sure at what point to copy over to the flash drive...from the Mozilla folder to the drive? Sorry guys, not done much of this before. The W7 machine is upstairs and the Vista is downstairs.

You can copy the folder called "profiles" from your vista AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox folder onto flash.

Then copy it from flash into your win 7 AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox folder.

Sorry for the late response...my Corgi is paralyzed and sick and had to take care of that. I copied it over onto the W7 Mozilla folder, closed it out and restarted but no change.

and no you do NOT need to restart Windows..

I only restarted FF. I'll see if I can do what you recommended. I've transferred photos and things of that nature via the flash drive but not to this extent before and not comfortable not knowing exactly what I'm doing but, I'm going to give it a stab.

Sorry guys but this is just not coming together. I see two profiles on W7 and not sure which is which or for what.

I don't know where that last one came from as the profile for the Visa machine is onfec8hu.default

In retrospect that second one may be from an old profile of FF. Why it shows as todays date I don't know.

Then you obviously haven't copied onfec8hu.default into the win 7 profiles folder.
