Asus G75VW does not recognize USB ports

I read a post from 2014 that was nearly identical. The answers, however, did not help the person asking for help.

Everything worked fine on Monday - no changes or installs were made. Come back to edit some images and my card reader and USB ports are gone. I tried what I could and did download Device Driver which installed all of the correct drivers and there are no exclamation points anywhere in the Device Manager.

I decided to see if it was the Hub or the machine. I took the machine to the Hub and one at a time, plugged each unit directly in to the computer. Nothing. I tried to plug a camera in - nothing. The Libraries never changed and none of the 3 external HDs were found nor was the card reader.

I would really appreciate any help. I did notice a suggestion to do a restore - and I would if I could but - the external hard drive that has everything is one of those USB devices and the networked 8TB WDUltra is considered a network device and the computer doesn't look for it as a source of backup.

Also, I have an elevated command prompt open, and the only 2 accounts on the machine are Administrator accounts; but it doesn't recognize either account as Administrator and won't run sfc /scannow either.

I miss my ports :( and thank any and all who can help.

Lisa

I forgot to add that yesterday I was optimizing the BIOS - in an attempt to get my ports back - and changed the character from whatever it was to RAID. I don't know if that makes any difference; it was because the ports were gone that I tried that.

Lisa (again, sorry)

Once you installed IObits Advanced System Care you are pretty much screw.
It does all kinds of goofy things to any computer.

You could try using a restore point before you installed ASC.
It might help and it might not.

From your System Specs
Antivirus Malwarebytes, Bitdefender, Advanced System Care

Excuse me?

I don't use Malwarebytes or Advanced System Care; they are not installed on my machine. I use Bitdefender. Why would you think I used the others?

Did you read my post? I can't use a restore point because the expansion drive that has the backups are connected by USB. The other backup is a WDUltraMax that's on the network and the machine doesn't access the network for backup and restore points.

I regularly make backups and create restore points. This is the first time that won't help me.

I don't know where those sys specs you're referring to are. I went through regedit and found one reference to ASC which I deleted. The program itself was deleted - when I found it with Uninstaller.

These are the USBSTOR reg settings. Everything listed is correct. What's there that's preventing it from showing? I also get another error when I attempt to access "Properties". Images attached.

I will look for Malwarebytes as that was or should have been deleted a long time ago.

Thank you,

Lisa

Lisa, don't play with Regedit or you may end with an unusable computer.

Open Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts. One account must be administrator.

I think you have to edit your hardware profile specs to match your system.

Megahertz07,

Can you elaborate on that reply?

How do you see my specs and how do I match them to the hardware?

Also, following your advice, I went to User Accounts then Manage Accounts. There are only 2 users and both are Admins. Both are password protected.

Thank you,

Lisa

Lisa,
Every post you do, at the bottom left has a small arrow. You hit it and it will expand with the hardware specs.
To edit your profile, click your mouse over your nick name (RocketFlamingo) - View public profile -
Once you're on your page, at the top you have Quick links -User control Panel - Edit System Spec

To run sfc /scannow, open a CMD window with admin right (right click on CMD shortcut - run as administrator) type sfc /scannow

Megahertz07, I see that and located those programs on a different drive. They've been deleted. I restarted and still see that Malwarebytes and ASC show up as my Antivirus. I'll have Bitdefender clean it up.

On the other note, you mentioned editing my Hardware Profile. How do I do that? I've never heard of that.

Thank you,

Lisa

I changed the hardware profile to a gaming ROG setup and all 4 problems I thought were fixed popped up. 3 are Chipset problems and the other is the USB controller (PCI).

I'm getting the drivers now. I hope that makes a difference. Fingers crossed.

Got an error :( Sez "Computer does not meet minimum requirements for installing the software.

What do I do with that?

Thank you,

Lisa

Lisa, you're are doing ALL wrong.
- To uninstall a program you go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features and once you find it on the list you just hit uninstall. Don't use a program to do it.

Did you read my post #10?

If you don't have any drives on a RAID array, you should set BIOS as AHCI, not RAID.

Where is the cmd shortcut? I open the elevated command prompt using start: Command Prompt and it shows the program. I don't see the shortcut.

Puter scan shows new errors: "Problem detected with Intel(r) Series/C216 Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller 1E2D" (Code 32) = PCI bus 0, device 26, function 0

I think this has been the problem from the get-go. I opened device manager and there were 4 errors. These four match up to the errors that 'were' showing up before I replaced all of the drivers.

I run a driver program; new drivers are installed, the errors went away. Now with the PCI Bus issue, my computer isn't worthy of installing the PCI driver required. See images please.

Regarding Uninstalling; the uninstaller in Programs and Features is the same Uninstaller that I use independently. The issue is that the C drive was for the OS, it's on a SSD. The old HD was made a separate drive (D). Those are the only two drives I can access right now.

After a Device Driver said it successfully installed the PCI Bus, I restarted then went to device manager. The errors were still there. I uninstalled each problem and then refreshed. The errors, instead of being at the bottom of the list, now show up in different places. They move from different devices, but ultimately, everything is still wrong. I'm going to get into BIOS, and hopefully be able to get back out :)

Thanks,

Lisa

The quest to restore ports continues. I no longer get errors for chipset/usb host controller. I don't see them in device manager, I don't see them in registry. Computer just doesn't see them. :sarc:

I've done everything suggested including getting rid of the VGF thing with IE and other recommendations. I don't know why they disappeared. In the few hours I did not use the machine, they just disappeared. Open to any more suggestions and help - please! and Thank you!

Also, I a m searching machine to find Malwarebytes and ASC that show up still.

Microsoft says I need user MpsSvc

According to Microsoft - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...s-do-not-start-in-windows-vista-and-windows-7

There were several things I needed to do in the RegEdit program to set permissions. Everything went as directed with the exception being this instruction:

  1. "Browse to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dhcp
  2. Right click the key, then click Permissions, then click Advanced.
  3. Under the Name column, click the one that states MpsSvc, then click Edit."
There is no user, group or other that contains "MpsSvc". The image Attached is the entire group of potential users; none of them indicate they contain or are that file.

There was another issue with Firewall, but that's not a problem.
