Toshiba Satellite L655, W7 Home Premium SP!, 64 bit, 3.00 GB RAM.

The Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless adapter is 'working properly'
Problems with MANY services:
DHCP Client - Status of Starting
DNS Client - Set to Automatic, but when I try to start it I get 'Windows could not start the DNS Client services - Error 10107: A system call has failed'
Network Location Awareness - Set to Automatic, but when I try to start it I get 'Windows could not start NLA. For more information review the system error log'
TCP/IP Netbios Helper - Status of Starting
WLAN AutoConfig - Set to Automatic, but when I try to start it I get 'Windows could not start' the service. 'Error 1747: The authentication service is unknown'

Running sfc /scannow as an admin gives me - Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service

Hi Boweasel,
another customer!!
Would be interesting to see whats causing his problems,
Dont think its malware, try Eset-on-line scanner dissable other AV.

Longer route
run Kb947821
short route
Repair install - No loss of personal data

Can you even ping your router?
I would look in the event log for errors that have started recently.

Attempting to access the Event Log - Event Log service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running.
Attempting to start it - Windows could not start the Windows Event Log service on Local Computer. Error 1747: The authentication service is unknown

Here is the ipconfig text file for what it's worth. Nothing to really ping.
If I plug an Ethernet cable into the laptop I also have no internet. It screws up just like the wireless - the Wired AutoConfig service is also set to Automatic, but is not started. And I get the same message when I try to start it - Windows could not start the Wired AutoConfig service. Error 1747: The authentication service is unknown

Uh Roy, isn't the computer being online one of the prerequisites for using the Eset online scanner?

Roy, I suppose you've seen enough to realize just how ornery computers can be. The winsock reset was one of the first things I tried. It gave me some sort of error which I never wrote down. This was in the early stages of working on this laptop and I wasn't concerned about documenting stuff because I was sure I could fix it without any help...

Well something I did must have changed something, because when I re-ran the winsock command (just so I could give you the exact error msg)... it worked. No error, and after a reboot we now have wireless. I never would have tried it again if you hadn't prompted me. Sorry I can't add to your rep - it says I must spread it around. But thanks.
