Overclocking non k i5 6600

This is just a simple question I’ve got here I’ve heard about people over licking non k CPU’s I really want to get the most out of my i5 my ram and 1070 gpu arre already over locked so can I do it with the MSI b150 gaming m3

Not sure where you heard that but non K cpu`s are supposed to be locked. But the max Turbo frequency is 3.9 GHz so you can have all 4 cores turbo up to 3.9 GHz

That can be done in the Bios, if it has that option.

It has the option but I just read in a few forums that turbo boost turns off a few cores and makes other cores run higher in that case it could actually damage performance

Turbo Boost does not turn off any cores if the bios has the option to Sync all cores, then none of them will go above 3.9

I would stay away from these forums that keep giving you false information.

Well first off, you have a non-K processor. Second, your motherboard sports a B150 chipset which does not support overclocking even if you have an unlocked processor.

Can't the OP downclock the memory, and increase the front side bus frequency? I don't know if B series boards allow the FSB clock to be adjusted as I'm not much into Intel, but on a locked AMD chip, that is what you do.

But make sure that the memory is downclocked so that it doesn't exceed the rated spec on the RAM, or it won't boot, and it's a pain to reset.

Also, my standard warning: Be very careful when you OC as you can damage your hardware if you don't know what you are doing.

Remember: If you can't afford to replace it, don't OC it!

I have the money for an upgrade so I’m taking risks I’m experienced with amd overclocking but I’m a newbie with Intel I went into the bios synced the cores and put a certain setting I can’t remember the name to fixed turned of turbo boost and increased the frequency to 3900 MHz but when I exited the bios or changed the setting to fixed

It would go back to a steady 3.2-35 ghz so I downloaded throttlestop undervolted ti prevent thermal throttling and put the multiplier to 3.9 this gives me a steady 3.7-3.8 ghz I don’t think there’s much more I can do

Also this is a little unrelated but any of you have experience setting up speed fan it seems useful but I can’t get any of the settings to work and it won’t detect any chipset
