Microsoft update : 0x8007007E on Windows 7

Hi everyone!
I have an 0x8007007E error while trying to use Microsoft Update on IE8. However, Windows update (the one built in windows) works but it only gives me updates for windows.

Welcome to Seven Forums, albanderuaz.

Windows Update should take care of updating IE8, it is a change from the former way of doing updates.

P.S. - Sorry for the delay in responding, but it looks like the issue is solved for you.

2.Reinstall WU Agent How to obtain the latest version of the Windows Update Agent to help manage updates on a computer

3.Try install this hotfi manually from Microsoft Download Center (not from WU)

Ok, I tried 1,2 and 3 but when I try to install the hotfix, it tells me that Wu's agent installation encountered a fatal error

Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on cmd.exe) as admin and type:

sfc /scannow

When it finish type in cmd.exe

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

on your desktop appear sfcdetails.txt

Download firegenul Altair Technologies Ltd.
place firegenul.exe in C:\Windows\System32 next again run cmd.exe with admin previlliges and type:

firegenul

Run also Readiness Tool Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, and for Windows 7

This tool even if it don't solve issue automatically it create CheckSur.log file in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder

All files CheckSur.log,sfcdetails.txt,FiregenReport.htm pack all together to ZIP format and attache to post

I zipped what you asked except the last thing you required me to run: when I try to install the program, it tells me that it is already installed. How can I run it manually then?

Strange error :sarc: restart computer an try again.Are you sure you didn't have it already started,mimalized on taskbar?

Do you have this file:C:\Windows\LOGS\CBS\CheckSur.log?

If yes attache this file to post.

Leave Readiness Tool

-uninstall 3p security software and try again install hotfixes
-you can try install them on clean boot:How to perform a clean boot procedure to determine whether background programs are interfering with a game or a program that you currently use
-try install this hotfix Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Application Compatibility Update

Found the problem!
I extracted all the dll files of the Windows update agent installer 'WU 3.0' available for download from microsoft website.

Then I copied them in system32 folder: i did not overwrite those that were already existing but three dll's were missing:
cdm.dll
wuauserv.dll
wuweb.dll

then i regsvr32'ed them and it worked!
