Hi Rose1,

You need to modify a key in the registry!

Backup your system first, preferably a full disk image, lesser alternative Restore Point.
Backup your Registry
Registry - Backup and Restore - Windows 7 Help Forums

Click :orb: in searchbox type regedit. click on entry, navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes
click on Themes, not the expand arrow >

Double-click ThemeChangesMousePointers DWORD key and change value to 0

You will also notice the ThemeChangeDesktopIcons DWORD key. This particular key holds the setting to allow or prevent a theme from changing desktop icons, if the theme features a set of new icons. However, the Windows Themes you download from Microsoft aren’t likely to feature new set of icons, so you probably don’t need to modify this setting.

Happy Computing!

Ok, do you have allow themes to change mouse pointer unchecked?

Click :orb: and type mouse and select mouse
Go to the pointers tab and at the bottom you should see allow themes to change mouse pointers, uncheck it and press OK.
Try to apply your custom mouse poiner and see if upon restart windows still brings back your mouse to the default one

If that doesn't work, I'm out of recommendations!

No problem, I totally understand the Brain Fade, I'm 65. LOL
What do you mean Fixed It, apply the changes to the Registry, or the Themes?

Irregardless, glad to see your issue is resolved.

Happy Computing!
