Upgraded to a PC with Win 7 Professional 64-bit from a very similar PC with Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and I'm noticing some differences in bluetooth operation. Not sure if these are due to differences in Pro and Home Premium or if the Pro system has some Windows updates that the Home Premium system just hasn't fetched yet.

Home Premium system specs:
Computer type PC/Desktop
System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS 8700
OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
CPU Intel core i7-4770 cpu @ 3.40 GHz
Motherboard Dell OEM
Memory 16GB
Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 645
Sound Card integrated
Monitor(s) Displays multiple
Screen Resolution 1920x1080

Pro system specs are in the signature. Nearly identical - biggest differences are Pro instead of Home Premium, 32GB RAM instead of 16GB and Radeon graphics instead of Nvidia graphics.

On the Home Premium system, clicking on a (previously paired) bluetooth device opens the Operations window. On the Pro system, this is the Services window. Different name and look, but not a big deal. With the Home Premium system, I usually didn't need to click on any of the bluetooth device icons. Simply turning on the device was sufficient for the computer to connect to the device.

With the Pro system, I have to take the extra step of clicking on the bluetooth device icon and select an option (e.g., "Listen to Music") in order for the computer to connect to the device.

Is there a way to streamline this connection process in W7 Pro? I can use a script to click a particular bluetooth device icon and connect to the device, but it would be even better if the computer automatically connected like my Home Premium system did.

Is the Bluetooth device in the pro the same on the HP (same brand and model)?
Open device manager. Do they use the same driver?

Not just same brand and model, the bluetooth devices are the same - I just moved them (headset, speakers) from the old PC to the new PC.

The BT devices aren't listed in Device Mgr, they are listed in Devices and Printers. But the BT radio listed in Device Mgr is different. And when I look inside the case, I can see they have different BT radios:
old PC: Dell DW 1703, and it uses Dell Wireless 1703 BT driver
new PC: Intel AC 7260, and it uses Intel Wireless BT driver

So I suspect that is the root difference driving the different behaviors. I guess there's not much I can do about that apart from maybe swapping the BT radios (and the corresponding drivers), but I don't want to risk the potential glitches that could introduce.

"BT radio listed in Device Mgr is different."
That explains the difference between the devices. They have different drivers.
Don't see any problem if you swap the BT radios.
