Solved Double sided printout

I have a Samsung laser printer that has double sided option. It seems fickeled..at times. i get it to do that and other times it does not. I go into preferences and it is confusing, mainly cause i do not understand some of the options it offers, so maybe just one option does not work as it should...ie...it says a few times of choices...single page, multiple page and etc. I have tried both and made sure that the box appears that says double sided...Now, at tax time is when i mainly want to use double sided printing, cause all those forms that one downloads, come either in 4,6 pages. I wonder if the printer is aware of certain downloads that it automatically does the double sided. I went to Samsung and they no longer support their printers and gave that job to HP, which in turn is hopeless too. Does anyone have an idea of how to get this printer to do a double sided option? The model is ML2950 series.

Do you have the latest firmware and software?- Access Denied

How to set it to do what you want is easy to find in the user manual.

You can permanently set the device by going to Printer preferences for that Printer.

The Printer Preferences should also be accessible when you go to print from any application installed on Windows.

I know how to check my preferences of my printer and its in that area that seems confusing for me, like I said in my OP. Also, do you know how I can find if I did install a firmware for my printer? I tried About:config and i see quite a few lists of my printer and the last one says.."modified".

Thanks, I have the original Samsung installation disc that is almost the same as the one you sent me here.

The double side option with long edge is the only one that brings up the box of double side, and yet the pictorial of it is not what i prefer. Now the short edge does, but when i choose it, the double side option does not appear...go figure.

I do recall that i had reinstall a later printer and firmware after using the disc that came with the printer, but lost track when i did do this. That is why i was asking if there is a way to find the version of the Firmware i do have and see if the one that is offered now in 2017 is an improvement, or i already have it installed. Now, i went to computer folder of Samsung and properties and it shows under previous versions, that the printer was updated twice...once the week of jan 16 and then jan 24 of this year. It says that this occurred either through system restore ( which I did not do ) and/or windows backup. If this is true, then it may occur each time i use the printer, automatically...i did not do it personally.

I went to the website and looked at all the firmware, drivers, and software. All of them are for Vista 64 bit. Nothing for Win 7.

However, you said you were able to access the double sided print options shown on page 173 of the manual. As a result, it doesn't appear to be a Win 7 problem.

However, there are two options. The second one is for the case where you use either a PCL or XPS driver (I don't know where those drivers are and how one determines which one is installed). It says it's the printer default and how they work depends on the settings you specify on the printer control panel.

If you can use the second option, I would choose the long edge. That's just saying the orientation of the page is the same as if you are doing normal printing with standard 8 1/2 by 11 paper.

OK, i bit the bullet and uninstalled the printer driver and reinstalled it. I also tried to install the Firmware which is a .Zip file. I saved it, double clicked on it, like I did with the driver and for some reason it goes to windows Photo Viewer which in turn it says it cannot open it. Is it because its a zip file, so was the printer driver a zip file and had no problem installing that. Also, I always had a Samsung Printer manager installed, but i know not what is its function...would you?

If the file is a .zip file, you have to open it with a utility like J-zip, 7-zip, etc. There should be a .exe and, other files. Then, you would use the "Extract" feature to extract the files to a folder of your choice. Then, run the .exe file.

Note that some of the other files are release notes which you can open. I see one of the software updates is for Google cloud print issues and another is for a Windows 10 problem. I would install all 4 of the software updates. If you look at the Details for each of the software updates, it will explain what the Print manager does.

I know about having to open a zip file, i thought windows had an automatic unzip file...why is it i had no problem installing the driver zip file on its own? I don't know what your referring to about software updating Google cloud and etc. I saw nothing about those files you mentioned. BTW, i did get double side of a form of IRS since i reinstalled the driver.

Ha,ha...thanks for sticking with me it was a 'journey'. The last hassle was with installing the Firmware and I was told to remove all usb connections if i am using a usb connection ( which I am ) in order for it to be installed correctly, and then i get a message that it maybe damaged if i am not using a Samsung toner, after all these years, i am not, but a discounted replacement, which i have been using for years with no problems. Then it said its complete when you see ready set on the printer. The only thing that I noticed was that i did not get the typical acknowledgement that windows gives you when your plugging or starting a device, but i did a notepad printout and it worked just fine...so the saga ends and thanks again.
