I have all SP1 updates done and Update is green. No further updates available. I am trying to install WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB914961-SP2-x64-ENU. it is telling me I do not have enough 'storage'. Storage? Storage is a term referring to hard drives etc. Do you mean 'memory' perhaps? Regardless, I only have have one language installed (English). Why is this so difficult in the year 2019? Are we really still this backwards? It's just a service pack.

Hi st7james,

Welcome to SevenForums!

I am trying to install WindowsServer2003. WindowsXP-KB914961-SP2-x64-ENU.

Are you installing Windows Server 2003 on a partition on the same HDD or another HDD?
Is this going to be Dual-Boot?
Have you looked into the compatibility issues?

Hi
that KB is only for Server2003.

W7 Unofficial SP2
Microsoft Update Catalog
contains all the security and non-security fixes released since the release of Windows 7 SP1 that are suitable for general distribution, up through April 2016. Install this one update, and then you only need new updates released after April 2016. And since this update can be injected into Windows 7 SP1 media, it’s fully supported to mount a Windows 7 SP1 image (WIM file), then inject this update into it. See Add or Remove Packages Offline | Microsoft Docs for the details of how to do this.
This convenience update is completely optional; it doesn’t have to be installed and won’t even be offered via Windows Update – you can choose whether or not you want to use it.
To apply this update, you must install the April 2015 servicing stack update for Windows 7 (KB3020369).

Support lifecycle

On July 13, 2010, Windows Server 2003's mainstream support expired and the extended support phase began. During the extended support phase, Microsoft continued to provide security updates; however, free technical support, warranty claims, and design changes are no longer being offered.[46] Extended support lasted until July 14, 2015.[46]
Although Windows Server 2003 is unsupported, Microsoft released an emergency security patch in May 2017 for the OS as well as other unsupported versions of Windows (including Windows XP and Windows 8 RTM), to address a vulnerability that was being leveraged by the WannaCry ransomware attack

RE: torchwood

That KB won't install. it says it doesn't apply to my computer....? All of the Microsoft dialogue seems to infer it does. I have a HP Envy 17t with Windows 7 Professional installed. I don't understand why it won't install.
I installed KBxxx5574, the rollup that is. It installed fine. But the SP2 download from Microsoft I have is giving the message I referred to in the original post. There are a lot of inconsistencies here.

All said, it is a glaring denigration that SP2 does not come up automatically through Windows update like it use to. Things actually didn't require all this online support like they do now. When you think of all the wasted man hours globally because of a few bad decision makers at Microsoft, it is a serious travesty of efficiently used man power globally. The sheer number of wasted hours by millions of people. I mean really, i have over 6 hours now of time trying to install a service pack! We have really fell along way down at MS.

RE: torchwood

Oh yes, I wanted to mention that the SP2 I referred to in the original post is the one Microsoft support indicated was for Windows 7. As you can see from the post, it also works for XP. Not 2003 only as you said. But Microsoft I'm certain didn't want to put all of the OS's it works for in the file name. That would be sensible.

Hi st7james,

There is no official SP2 for Windows 7!

The SP2 mentioned by torchwood contains all the security and non-security fixes released since the release of Windows 7 SP1 that are suitable for general distribution, up through April 2016. It is a quick way of installing some of the updates prior to installing the rest of the WU's [Windows Updates]. It therefore cuts down the time needed for the installation of the rest of the WU's to get your OS upto date!

So can we close this thread then saying Windows will never indicate SP2 is installed? That is when you right click 'computer' and go to 'properties'.
