Hi,

Have a USB 2.0 which i've solely bought to put a BIOS file on to flash the bios for an update... I'm stuck though because the USB is acting like a removable disk and asking me to insert disk when I try to open... Following the request of historical posts i'll screenshot my diskmgmt page. Some of the previous posts solutions did not work which is why i'm posting.

I've tried:
- changing the drive volume to a different letter from diskpart.exe
- uninstalling/reinstalling host controllers
- cleaning the drive from diskpart.exe
- tried 'changing drives and letter paths' from disk mgmt but it's not even an option
- run the hardware device and troubleshooter

You know I think ASRock doesn't really have anything to do with the USB flash drive issue.

I know. Some BIOS updates can be downloaded to the desktop for example and run from there!

Hi Bason Journe,

What format did you use to initially format the USB?
What file type is the BIOS file?

What kind of media is the USB (HDD, Flash stick, SD)?
What is the disk brand and model?
Where did you but it?
Did you format as Fat32 (that is the default for Flash stick and SD)

Hi Bason Journe,

I know. Some BIOS updates can be downloaded to the desktop for example and run from there!

Absolutely.. I have the .exe version of the BIOS as well but i'm only trying to do the flash update because I hear it's more stable.

What format did you use to initially format the USB?
- I have been unable to format it at all, right clicking on "format" yields "there is no disk, please insert disk"
What file type is the BIOS file?
- i downloaded all three types, the raw bios, the DOS and the EXE

i'm considering just partitioning my external HD with a small FAT32 partition and load from there... have not done that though so have to google...

Hi Bason Journe,

It could be a faulty USB!

Have you tried formatting the USB on another computer?

I'm considering just partitioning my external HD with a small FAT32 partition and load from there... have not done that though so have to google...

You can use AOMEI [FREE] to create a small partition => AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition.

I hope this helps!

I agree with Jason. A BIOS update under Windows is risky. I always do it under BIOS.

You didn't answer my questions.
What kind of media is the USB (HDD, Flash stick, SD)?
What is the disk brand and model? Is it a SD card holder?
Where did you but it?

Hope you didn't buy it on eBay. There are a lot of people selling damage or fake drives.

So I installed a small FAT32 extended partition and loaded the BIOS file on there but my instant flash utility is not finding any bios files. Curious
