Hi all, I am running Win 7 x32 Home in French and it always worked OK. I installed Win 7 x64 Pro in English on a new SSD and it installed fine, I think. When I boot in the x32 environment it takes a while to sort itself out and then I get the message Starting Windows in English and then the progress bar and then it reverts to French for the rest of the boot up and it seems to run OK. Any ideas why the intial boot comes from the English version. I unplugged the SSD and I still get the English message.

Hi bobinfrance, welcome to the Forum.

I assume you have the Windows 32 bit on one drive, then you fitted a new SSD & then installed the 64 bit on that SSD. It seems that you did not disconnect the 32 bit drive beforehand & when installing the 64 bit part of it ended up getting installed on the 32 bit drive. You will need to reformat the SSD, then disconnect the 32 bit drive & reinstall the Windows 64 bit on the SSD. When you have checked that it boots properly, you can reconnect the 32 bit drive.

This is a very common problem when trying to install Windows on a new drive while there is an existing drive connected.

Simplest way is to change the language element in the bcd store.

Boot into 32 bit (french) installation.

open an elevated command prompt and type:

bcdedit /set {current} locale fr-FR

Then press enter.
