Windows 7 very slow, unresponsive and hangs

Install Windows update fix KB3172605

System Update Readiness Tool Readiness Tool

Updates SHA-2 support kB4474419, KB4490628

Okay same thing happened again with the same issue where it's not "applicable" to my computer. Man can we go to a chat or something because this is really frustrating the hell out of me. If we make any improvements I'll be sure to post it here for people who might encounter the same problem as me.

Yes I downloaded the ones that had "x64" because this win 7 version is 64 bits. Still it says "this update is not applicable to your computer."

Hey man, I did and when I tried to install "Windows6.1-KB3020369-x64" it says this. What should I do?

I have to keep telling people to stop installing & using the KB3020369 update - that's an obsolete and redundant update and is replaced by KB3177467 and newly released KB4490628 update. KB4490628 supersedes & replaces all previous servicing stack updates like KB3177467 and KB3020369 and KB3020369 is not offered thru windows update anymore; hence KB3020369 is "not applicable" because newer updates like KB3177467 and KB4490628 replace it

before installing KB3172605, install either KB3177467 or KB4490628.

.... I wiped off my hdd, did a fresh install of win 7. First boot was okay after reinstalling but then it started lagging again and I updated all the drivers, it did nothing to increase performance.

These symptoms on a fresh install are consistent with a failing HDD. Doesn't matter if it passes all tests or not. A good way to know is the boot time - if the boot time is slower than it should be in addition to your other symptoms, the hard drive is likely failing. A million things can slow a windows system down once its booted, but they usually do not slow the boot time down, not after a fresh install.

If you have a spare hard drive somewhere, clone your current drive to it then disconnect your current drive and boot from the new drive - my bet is the new boot drive will perform normally.

cancel everything I said if you have a solid state drive, comments only apply to a spinning drive.

Well it's sort of expensive to buy a HDD here so buying new things is currently out of the picture. Boot time is somewhat fast I mean the "welcome" screen lasts for like around 5 seconds...

If the time from powering on to getting to the desktop is normal, you can ignore my comments in regard to the hard drive.

Having said that, a slow fresh install is not usually a software problem (assuming your drive is less than 90% full), so I would troubleshoot your hardware as best you can by disconnecting everything you can - extra usb devices, wireless or lan connections, try motherboard graphics instead of video card graphics, try plugging mouse/keyboard into different ports. Try changing your hardware environment around just to see does the system operate at normal speed, ever, in any configuration. Also see the speed in safe mode. If you do all that and it is consistently slow you can probably rule out hardware issues.

Bobesian said that the WU was running forever so I think the WU engine has a problem.
I once had same thing and it was WU that kept the computer resources so busy that it was momentary freezing the computer.

My question is: With WU set to manual on Services and set to never check on WU page, did the problem vanished?

Bobesian said that the WU was running forever so I think the WU engine has a problem.
I once had same thing and it was WU that kept the computer resources so busy that it was momentary freezing the computer.

My question is: With WU set to manual on Services and set to never check on WU page, did the problem vanished?
Not really, no...

Uh okay, sorry for not responding for a while I was very busy. So I've checked all my components and they are just fine and I already did a clean install. Do you think that SP2 instead of SP1 would increase the performance?
