Hi there
Any help appreciated.
Running windows 7 home premium on a desktop.
Takes ages to boot up, 10+ minutes and generally running very slow.
I'm no techno.
Any pointers, places to look, programs that may help to find the issue appreciated.
BTW the task bar has lots of shortcuts in it. I did ask someone and was told that shouldn't affect it since it doesn't mean they are running.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi splodrod,

How much free space do you have on your SSD? They dramatically slow down when close to full!

Have you run Disk Cleanup or Disk Cleanup Extended?

You may wish to invest in a larger SSD, say 250GB or more.

You can download my batch file which starts Disk Cleanup Extended. Double-click the zip/compressed file and double click the file in it, (Run Disk Cleanup Extended)

When disk cleanup window open, check all boxes, click OK.

BTW: If you save the batch file you can run it whenever you wish.

Hi Nic.
1Tb free of 1.34Tb. Think it's a hard drive in this machine.
Disk clean up yields nothing. Extended?
Cheers Ian

Well so much for system specs! You shouldn't be having an issue with drive space by your last post. Don't think dcu extended will help.

Do you have a plethora of startup programs?

If ever I'm allowed on the machine I'll check. Someone likes their casino games!

If by system specs you mean what I entered when joining that was for my laptop. This is another machine.

Yea, that the specs I mean, didn't see anything in your post indicating it was not current machine with issues. For obvious reasons, it makes troubleshooting problematic. All is well however!

OK had a look using msconfig. Didn't seem to be much there. Took a few things out. And the PC runs slow after startup as well.

Lets do the basic fist.

Open a CMD window.
Type chkdsk c: /f
It will say that the disk is in use and if you want to schedule for next start = Yes

Pay attention on the results, specially bad blocks or bad clusters.

Hi there. Life got in the way.

Megahertz07

Tried to run chkdsk c: /f said I didn't have the correct privileges. "you need to invoke this utility running in elevated mode" Never heard that one before.
