Hi JamesEJ,

[1] What were you speaking about when you got asked the question?
[2] When you boot Windows, do you have to put a password in to get into your account?
[3[ When Windows boots up, do you have icons in which to click for your username, administrator or guest?

this is going to complicate beyond reason I think but here goes for now.

1) was trying to get info on how to get google backup and sync installed in a google drive forum.
2) when I boot windows I no longer manually fill in that password for. Lifewire has a way to boot without manual entries.
3) no. see 2) above.

No offense at all but thought someone could simply tell me what is a ""windows login account". Thanks, Paul! Jim

Hello JamesEJ

While it is not an official MS term, I might be tempted to interpret "windows login account" as meaning "an account" [recognised|belonging] "to a windows operating system", and therefore NOT meaning a LINUX account, a network account, an email account, nor a cloud storage account.

That interpretation readily fits your situation that you describe in post #3.

You still might want to ask the respondents to your forum post, whether they mean a "end-user account" or a "service account", as both are justifiably a "windows login account". Otherwise, I'd assume they mean a "user account on windows OS".

Thanks, Iko22! An I dunno answer is good. it is straight-up. I told the particular forum party involved I did not have any idea what that term meant, so I imagine that person will clarify what it is supposed to mean (maybe). Appreciated, Jim.

I think you are right to hesitate, JamesEJ, as it is not a Microsoft term. They could just be vague because they are not Microsoft Partners.

Let us know what response you receive!

That looks like a good fit. Here is the original discussion:

Let's check a few basics first:
Which operating system version, including exact build number, are you using?
Are you running this operating system inside a Virtual Machine (VM), or are you running the OS natively?
Are you using any antivirus/malware apps?
If so, which ones?
Are you using a wired or wireless connection to the network/internet?
>>>>>>When you are attempting to install, are you using a Windows login account (not Google, Windows) that has full administrator privileges?<<<<<

The last sentence is the culprit containing the phrase being discussed here

They are asking you if your Windows User Account (NOT Gmail) is a Standard User Account or a Admin User Account? They are implying that they require an Admin User Account to complete the install.

OK, lets go back to the moment you, or someone, installed Windows (10) on your computer.

The installer asks you if you have a MS Windows Account, that you created with Microsoft, or if you want to create one. ???
So it's up to you, how you want to answer that question.

For me, I want to keep my association with Microshaft at a bare minimum.
So I log in with NO account at all. The installer will allow this.

So I wind up with a Screen Name and NO password, and my OS boots right to the desktop. Simple!

I hope that comes closer to answering your initial question.

Cheers Mate!

even though I created my one and only account with admin powers, apparently the 'admin account' has more power. So, for my convenience, I have 2 passworded logins - one for me and one for Admin. The 'user' takes me to the desktop in under 90 seconds, the Admin 30-45 seconds - from power-on.
