Win7 32-bit slow (what am I doing wrong?)?

I don't mean to interfere with the excellent guidance you've been providing but, in post 18, you suggested the problem may be due to third party software. In post 5, I suggested running a clean boot which could identify software which is causing the problem. So far, my suggestion has been ignored. Not sure why especially since it takes just a few minutes.

Hi Scott,

Thats a shame, it really is SAFE.
The reason its flagged is that it uses the highest privilages.
As i said its the tool of choice - its even used on the Malwarebytes security forum - check it out.

Lets try a purely info tool - ignore the title it provides a great deal of info

Can you confirm if your still only running IE.

Roy

I installed Chrome, but haven't disabled IE11 (too close to Win Updates...).
Per BD support, I changed my FW from Public to Home/Office (I have cable internet)- Things seem to load faster...

Hi Scott,

you do seem to be fixated, on windows updates, running and settings
Security is more important, which means YES whatever programs/features your running they must be upto date.
ALL you have to do is Install shutdown and reboot to ensure this is achieved

IF you do not want to follow any suggestions fine, but why post in the first place???
Were not here to screw you up

Because W7 is entering its EOL shutdown timeline you are going to have to move away from ANYTHING thats going to lose support, IE/MSE/UPDATES
3rd party programs ARE NOT affected

Been using W7 for years (2009) but now only update Security fix's for MS programs that i use
(bye bye IE/MSE)

Hi Scott.

You seem to have changed a number of Services start-up defaults
please see Brinks tutorial here
Services - Restore Default Services in Windows 7
please restore them- pnp for starters

Goto Device manger update your, reported as problematic
SATA
USB3 drivers
Intel grahics
Epson drivers

note Windows Update has an option to update drivers for you have you turned this OFF

Run the Network services Troubleshooter

Now you have 2 programs that include a registry optimizer
Ccleaner and Vitsoft
I do hope you have NOT used them, they cause more problems than there worth
(possibly Ashampoo as well)

I see you have now installed Google, would be a good time to uninstall IE11.

Hey Roy:
Thank you for the analysis!
1. I checked Win Update (see attachment), and everything was enabled (I clicked the shield, as this was not there when I installed 7. No updates the next day (only checks on cold startup).
2. I checked/updated everything in Device Manager (Run as admin), and all were up to date).
3. I have run Ccleaner several times, and I feel you are correct about it causing problems!
a. I have run Vitsoft registry cleaner Only (as admin), and fear it may have corrupted things...!?
4. Reinstalled PnP...
5. No problem with Network Services (BD may have caused the errors?).
6. When my computer shop migrated from HDD to SDD, he also installed Samsung Magician (Control program). I have read reviews where this kept 7 from configuring properly.

I feel that we may be beating a dead horse, and a repair install may be necessary (with Cc/Vitsoft/Magician/, uninstalled!
I hope that MS hasn't disabled the ISO (as they have with other 7 downloads...!)?

G' day
Scott

This is one of several reasons that both sevenforums and bleepingcomputers do not recommend such utilities.

It still seems no one is willing to perform a simple clean boot.

In lookiing at the log files, one thing seems to occur on more than one occasion and which can cause system slowdown- radar_pre_leaks.

I'm not recommending any software, but this blog seems to provide a good evaluation of this situation and is worth a complete read-

For clean boots one can use autorun or msconfig to temporarily slim down starting programs.
Such is often used to troubleshhot and reveal bloaters or crawlers.

Thank you for the link!-
One problem with 32-bit is that it only allows 4gig of memory!
i have 1 stick of Crucial 4gig of DDR4 installed on this MBO, with only 2,5gig available!
They don't make 2gig DDR4, so I also can't use dual channel!
BTW- Uninstalling Ccleaner, and Vitsoft helped somewhat.

In regards to 2 GB sticks of DDR4, I found this-

https://www.amazon.com/SK-Hynix-Des...rds=2gb+ddr4&qid=1566832078&s=gateway&sr=8-15

There was a bunch of it at e-bay.

The idea behind the clean boot is to see if there is a service or startup software running in the background which is causing the problem.

-My Gigabyte MBO doesn't support Any 2gb DDR4!- Any suggestions on a good MBO?

-I won't do a networked clean boot, without an active AV!
All my problems started after installing Bitdefender IS AV (In the cloud Sucks!)!?
Any suggestions on a good/fast... AV, that also protects against Ransomware?

What is the model number for your motherboard? Any motherboard that supports DDR4 should support 2GB sticks.

If you afraid of running the clean boot without AV, pull the plug on your internet while you're running it. Also, create a system restore point before doing the clean boot. You should be covered.

I didn't look through the whole thread but it seems this is the first time you mentioned Bitdefender. AV programs are big these days on including firewalls which can slow things down. You could use the free Microsoft Security Essentials.

You have so many antivirus and security features that they can be conflicting.
My suggestions are:
- Uninstall ALL the antivirus and security features and use Microsoft Security Essentials.
- Disabling essential services can make Windows unusable. Try to enable those you have disabled.

- Can't see any reason to disable IE 11, although Roy is the Windows expert. I won't ever recommend Chrome as it is memory resident and spy everything you do (online and offline). I use Firefox.

You probably don't have one issue causing problems, but many issues that together will make it quite impossible to solve your issues.

You have spent so much time trying to fix problems that I suggest you to do a repair-install
It will reinstall Win 7 keeping your data and programs. For the updates, use Simplix.
My suggestion is to set Services - Windows Update - Manual and on WU page set it to Never check.
Then run UpdatePack7R2
Simplix is a single file (750MB) that contain all updates since Win 7 released up to date. It has all security and non security updates without the trash (telemetry and tracking). Very good.
Then run WU manually to find updates for Office etc and decide witch one to install.

To uninstall the telemetry, run cmd file to uninstall those KB files.
kb_spy.cmd.txt
Rename it as KB_Spy.cmd and run it.

Thanks. I realize that it will only address 4 GB but it doesn't prevent having more than that installed. Technically, I don't know how it addresses the physical memory in that situation or if there would be any benefit.

Hi @wither 2

It basically identifies it BUT ignores the extra, and more importantly WILL NOT use it.
MS put some kind of block on it:mad:

DDR2 DDR3 and DDR4 are all different - unless the motherboard supports it - it will not "accept it"
note my lappy accepts 2/3 but not 4 it depends on how the BIOS has been set-up
Retail MBs are more likely to have the option for 3/4. Older OEM lappys like mine, and me are basically out of date.
