How to "repair" hidden/disappeared SysTray icons?

Occasionally it happens that most of my SysTray icons disappear resp. are hidden.

Whats wrong?

How can I let them re-appear (beside re-boot my 64bit Win7) system?

When notification icons misbehave, that's not an easy area of Windows to fix, unless somebody invented a way to do so I found a way to "mirror" (backup-copy) the long grey bar taskbar icons, thus giving me the easy way to bring them back onto that area, but, not the notification icons.

Did you read Paul's directions?
The systray, now called the Notification area, is for programs running in the background, and the taskbar icons (presumably gray on your machine,) are only for visible windows.

I see I did not word that well. Lettuce romaine accurate:

Now, for the other area, the long grey taskbar holding "Pin To Taskbar" collection of icons, I found a way to "mirror" (i.e. making a backup-copy of) the Pin-To-Taskbar icons in that long grey bar, thus giving me the easy way to bring them back onto that area. If anyone wants to know, can spell out the recovery process.

(OT--I did away with the "Pin to taskbar" years ago. And though it's gray on your machine, on this machine it's green, and my other ones it's lavender, because I make my own color schemes. Better to just call it the Taskbar)

Where it says to restart, does the icon cache rebuild itself, or do I have to type in another command?

...and the sky will fall? I know there's an update 2nd Tues of the month, and I know which programs are outdated, and I have a reason for that. I check Task Mger now and then to see if my A-V and firewall are running and whether there are any unknown processes running.
