Re-installation Problems. I don't want to do it again!

Hi

I cant believe this,

On June 26, I had to contact them again to buy the key for the program. It was $40.00.

MS stopped selling W7 a fair while back.
AND you actually have >>2<< valid keys

6RBBT-F8VPQ-QCPVQ-KHRB8-RMV82 - on your motherboard (factory installed)
which would be used if Dell recovery media used - see here
http://www.dell.com/support/home/uk/en/ukbsdt1/drivers/osiso/recoverytool/

AND your COA sticker key.

The tweaking.com tool that RolandJS referred to is actually quite good.

note
AV's are sometimes blocked from installing/updating because of malware
run Malwarebytes and ESET ON-Line scanner, you will need to dissable your current AV.

Hi Steerforth,

[1] As we are only doing a Repair Install [see my Repair Install - Overview in Post #2] it will probably not make a difference. If it does, then you could get another ISO from M$ presumably!

[2] You will need to .zip the folder first and then upload it . . .

Screenshots And Files - Upload And Post In SevenForums

This tutorial [Published by Brink] will show you how to upload the file =>
Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in SevenForums.

I hope this helps!

Did I tell you that you are dealing with an illiterate? I have never zipped a file in my life; I would not know where to start.

My apologies. I am going to be away most of the day, and I may not be able to get back to this until tomorrow. Regardless, you have my sincere ongoing thanks for all your assistance!

Not certain what you are saying about the keys or the other stuff, but I have used tweaking.com several times over the past weeks and it does not help at all.

This really isn't helping me. I must tell you that I have Vietnam War-connected health problems that affect my ability to process instructions, and I am at the overload stage right now. I think I will have to take my PC to a tech somewhere to get this fixed. I have had Windows products since 1998, and I have never had these problems before.

"I have used tweaking.com several times over the past weeks and it does not help at all." That's quite alright, Windows Repair All in One doesn't always solve problems. If you go to a local tech, please let us know what was done, so that, perhaps, we can learn from that local tech!

Re-installation Problems. I don't want to do it again!

Thanks again! I am grateful for all your assistance.

Another problem I have is that I live in Mexico - but only sixty miles south of the border. I think I took this PC (maybe it was my previous one) to a repair shop in Ensenada, and he just did a clean install. Maybe that is the only thing they know to do!

I could take it across the border to San Diego, but then I may have to deal with customs at the border, although probably not, but I would lose my proximity to it, and I don't think I want to do that.

What I think I am going to do is buy a new laptop even though it will have Windows 10 on it (yuck). I have back-up on an HDD that I can transfer all my files, and then I can play around with this one without fear.

Cheers!

Hi Steerforth,

I do know my product key.

That's good!

I have back-up on an HDD that I can transfer all my files.

That's good!

This is how to easily do a Repair Install.

[1] Disconnect any external HDD's.
[2] Create a folder on the Desktop, something like Clean_Inst.
[3] Copy the ISO into it.
[4] Unzip the ISO using something like 7-Zip. Click here => 7-Zip.
[5] Find and double-click the Setup.exe file [follow the prompts].
[6] When you get to the installation screen, select In Place Upgrade.

All your files are saved. It is just Windows itself that is replaced with a full working copy. A backup copy of the OS is created automatically [Windows.old]!

Then you can either update the OS using WU’s [Windows Updates], or use SIMPLIX which is much quicker.

I hope this helps!

Thanks very much! For instance, one problem I have is that I have never used a zip program in my life, and I often find instructions difficult to understand. It becomes very frustrating and stressful for me, and that is not good for my health at my age.

Maybe I will see if I can get somebody to come to my home and help me with this, or I may just buy a laptop, transfer files from my HDD, and then I can play around with this one and try to follow your instructions.

Thanks again!

I phoned Microsoft on June 25, and I gave them remote control of my PC. They were unable to fix the problem, so they re-installed Windows 7.

On June 26, I had to contact them again to buy the key for the program. It was $40.00.

Immediately, I began to have problems - and still do. Pages jump, web sites open by themselves, and my cursor seems to have a life of its own. It will actually go by itself to the Start Menu, open it, and open a program. I am really unable to use Facebook, because it jumps around so much. Same with my Outlook program for email. My Start Menu appears by itself every couple of minutes.

I was unable to write this directly on the page because my cursor kept jumping around, and I kept losing my place. I am writing this on Notepad.

I had Microsoft technicians looking at the problems several times over the past three months, and I tend to think they have only made the problems worse.

Most recently, though, was a couple of days ago, and the technician wants me to do a "Clean Installation". I have downloaded a copy of Windows 7 from a link that the technician gave me. I understand what this is all about, and would rather not do it by myself as it seems to be complicated, and I am not too computer savvy.

Any other ideas and advice will be greatly appreciated! It has taken me an hour to write this. Even on Notepad, the cursor and my place keep jumping.

Thanks very much!

Very strange.
Did you have to buy a key for US$40? Who charged you, M$ or Trend Micro?
Did you gave them a Credit card number and the security number?
I've seen on the TenForum that OP was been charged for a annual license. It was a trap.
Have a look at your credit card bill if any other expenses are being charged.

The best way to get your computer fixed is by doing a Dell Factory recover or a Clean install with a M$ installation disk.

Ok, seems that it was M$ who charged you with a key that you don't need (in fact I think they charged for the service, not for any key).
